Surrounded by Magic

Last night I went to sleep with the Magic Quilt folded up at the foot of my bed. I've been sick with one thing or another for a week now, so I figured it was worth a shot.

OMGOSH! It really is magic. I had the coolest dream. I was back in Hawaii. My MIL was there too and we were sitting on the lanai of a beach house. it was amazing. She wasn't even yakking my ears off. Guess who we saw on the beach? Guess! Guess! Guess! Jack Johnson. He was on the came over to say aloha and my MIL gave him a pair of old vans she had picked up at D.I. Then I asked him for a favor.

"I have this project called the Magic Quilt," I said. And then I told him all about how my readers donated fabric that represented their stories of healing and comfort and inspiration, and about how Kritta spun it all into magic, and about how it's going to travel bringing comfort and gaining momentum as it rocks people's world, starting with our first recipient, Stan, in Washington D.C.

Then I told him I was going to make a Magic T-shirt quilt too. I asked him if he would donate a t-shirt that represented him, something he's worn a lot. He said "SURE!" Then he took off his shirt and grabbed a permanent marker to sign it.

Then I woke up. It was 5:30 a.m. and I was wide awake. I felt great!

I felt so great!

I felt perfect.

I felt so perfect that I rushed to the bathroom to see if I had the smooth, bronze, Brazillian legs I've always dreamed of owning.

They're not there yet, but I swear they were actually just a teensy bit darker. And smoother.

I called to my hub from the bathroom, asking him if he wanted to go for a walk, with my new legs.

"NO!" he grunted, so I went into the bathroom and grabbed a q-tip and started cleaning my ears. I never clean my ears at 5:30 a.m.

I never hop out of bed at 5:30 a.m. either. I don't remember the last time I hopped out of bed at 5:30 a.m. I probably still lived in Hawaii the last time I felt good at that wicked early hour.

After I cleaned my ears, I painted my toenails. I never paint my toenails at 5:30 a.m.

Then I went and wrote a letter to Jack Johnson, asking him if he would donate a t-shirt for the magic t-shirt quilt. I really did. I'm really going to ask him. And I know he's going to say yes.

He practically already said yes.

I wish I had had the nerve to ask for back stage passes to his upcoming concert in Salt Lake, but my legs aren't that brown and smooth yet.

I'm so excited, peeps. About the magic.

Speaking of which, guess who's coming to dinner on Sunday? Cubworld. Wooohoooo! Love him. And his music. And he's bringing a t-shirt for the magic quilt.

I've also got t-shirt commitments from Andy Toolson, Marty Haws and his son, Tyler Haws (who, darnit, has his own wikipedia entry already!!!? He's only 19 for goodness sakes!) My hub played B-Ball with Marty and Andy at BYU and now our boy is playing b-ball with their boys. (btw, my son is also playing b-ball with Flat Stanley and Screech from Saved by the Bell).

The world spins round and round don't it!?

I also have a long list of other amazing, talented, inspiring people I'm going to ask for t-shirts. I can't wait to tell you all about them.

In the mean time we need more fabric and stories for our 3rd quilt. Springrose is going to make it for us and then we will start healing the state of Ideeho. She needs some good luck right now and I think this will be just the thing. (wink wink).

Wait, don't take that wink the wrong way. It wasn't suggesting anything suggestive. It was just a show of my faith, like wink wink, your wish is the universe's command.

You get me?

I'm going to have a contest soon over at my Magic Quilt blog, so keep your ears perked.

And guess what else!! Guess! Guess! Guess! I think my puppy is magic too. I can see it in her eyes. Since she's been here, my boys are picking their socks and shoes up off the family room floor AND they're not eating downstairs anymore, either.

Just in case she's not magic, I play Mozart for her every time I put her in her kennel for a nap. tee hee. She will be magic soon. And when she turns a year old I'm going to take her to therapy school so she can become a healer. We're going to go visit hospitals and heal all the sick kids with cancer.

WOO HOO!

I LUB being surrounded by magic!

You are seriously gonna heal the state of Ideeho????? Is that what you meant cuz I wasn't sure? Will the blanket come over as far as me, cuz I could use some healin' too.
I'll be bringing fabric to the CBC to give to ya. Is that OK? I'm thinking you are magic ya know if you'll do something so wonderful as the quilt.
I may even bring some quilt squares I've done with my own two hands. Is that OK too?

I bet your kids don't eat downstairs and leave their socks on the floor cuz Lulu eats them, huh?
Or maybe the dog is magic too and your whole house is magic. Maybe I'll drop by to get some magic dust from your house so don't go dusting to try and keep it clean. I think I want some of your dust.
My toenails look terrible...I obviously don't have magic dust at my house.

Ha ha Garden, your luck is obviously turning around since you were first. ;)

YES, YES, YES! bring squares you've already done. And bring fabric. As a nurse you have the birds eye view of comfort. Can you write down something? Something about comfort. Like what, in your opinion, brings the most comfort to people. (Magic therapy dogs named Lulu?) Or something someone did for you or you did for something that brought comfort?

YAY! And yes, I said Ideeho! That entire state!

P.S. Yes, that's why my boys pick up their shoes and socks. She speaks with her teeth.

And no, I don't think my dust is magic.

But maybe!

Love the song for this post today, The Way You Look Tonight. Ahh, Frankie!

Anyway - I didn't know you were doing another quilt or that you were doing t-shirt quilts! That so ROCKS! Crash, You Rock! I don't know anyone famous (only myself and I'm pretty sure I made that up...) but if I ever got famous I'd give you every t-shirt I had.

What type of people do you want to donate t-shirts? I may be able to find an authory friend or two who might donate.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Yes, Andrea, authory friends would be great! I'm going to ask Brandon Sanderson. And Annette Lyon. And I would love to get Shannon Hale. I just read her "Book of a Thousand days" and LOVED it! I'm also going to try to get Dan Gutman! woohoo for Dan Gutman!

Well you're just a blogging MACHINE this week! The flu seems to work for you. And you're awesome, doing these neat projects. When we're famous together we can donate our t-shirts to OTHER people's projects! That's how we'll know we've arrived - people will want autographed t-shirts from us. I better start practicing my famous-person t-shirt signature right now.

I love the magic quilt idea. Do you have to be famous and inspiring to be involved? What about us boring and uninspiring people?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Ha ha DeNae. I'm going to have you sign my t-shirt at the CBC. Oh, let's do that. Let's get everyone's autographs and add it to the Magic Quilt. I'm excited now.

Mary, I think it would be cool to have the boring and uninspired stitched next to the famous and accomplished. Please do send me your t-shirt. ;)

Personally, I think everyone is exciting and inspired in their own way.

Well, almost everyone.

Just the act of donating something that you've worn, for the sake of helping heal someone else is what makes the magic.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

But I get to be stitched next to Jack Johnson. hee hee

I'm going to donate my Chillin' with my Peeps" t-shirt. I honestly have one.

Love it! And Jack Johnson too ;D

Let me know if you want a sweater vest from a more full-figured sort of guy. Just to balance things out.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

ha ha ha Braden, I would LUB a sweater vest from a full figured guy. At least a t-shirt of a sweater vest. That would be awesome.

Zoo girl, HIGH FIVE! And shaka!

I have a Chillin with my peeps shirt ALSO but not sure I can give it up quite yet.

So you are to shy to ask famous ME for a T-Shirt!? Why I'd LOVE to donate my t-shirt and my signature Crash... anything for you dawling! :)

So glad it's magic and SO glad you might get Jack Johnsons sweaty shirt donated so he can be used for good!!!

TisforTonya said...

I can't believe you didn't ask him to donate his Eagle Brand Boxers... at least in the dream :)

I'm afraid that if I let all of my dreams be my inspiration we'd have a VERY different life... certainly the house would be painted more often :)

I know how important that magic quilt business is. but i just gotta say that the jj t-shirt should perhaps, maybe come right to me. It's only fair. or something like that. I would be treasured and well taken care of. At least say you will consider it :)

Sandi said...

* that was supposed to say that "IT" will be treasured and well taken care of

Kazzy said...

What a blessing to have all of that magic surrounding you!

I think your idea to take LuLu around to hospitals is brilliant, but I think you could do some healing all on your own too!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Sandi, I will consider it. At the very least I can make a photocopy of it for you.

T- ha ha ha ha Great point. Oh, I wish I had thought of that. ha ha ha That's a whole nother magic quilt. Perhaps I should consider a marriage therapy quilt. ha ha ha

Shelle, YOU have a Chillin' with my Peeps shirt too? We really are twins. Although obviously I'm the generous twin and you're the hip twin. h aha Is yours brown?

Iwa, I Facebooked that friend, because she used to be a student of mine, but I must have given her a B or something because she never wrote back. I'll let you know if I need a call. I would love any other famous people t-shirts. What about your famous brother and sis-in-law!

Donna, I came over to your blog. Did you see me? Tried to leave 3 comments. Never saw them appear though. Hope you know I LUB YOU. And thank you. So happy about your son coming home. At first read I thought you were writing that you have missed Jack Johnson so much and only 6 weeks until his concert. ha ha

I had to write to tell you I had a dream about you last night! You were swimming with Jack Johnson in the ocean!!! You were in the music video for Curious George. You were wearing this cute white dress with beautiful flowers on it, and high heel flip flops (the dressy kind) and your hair was perfect. It was all flowy. Then when you guys came out of the water, he took off this grey t-shirt. For some reason it was dry. And he signed it and then gave it to you and asked if you thought it would have enough magic for the quilt. Is that weird or what???? Maybe my sinus infection/broncitis infection/hormone induces dreams will come true. Althought I don't know how you will get to Hawaii to swim in the ocean with JJ and in a dress no less!

Hey is the next magic quilt going to be made from T-shirts?

I love the idea of taking your dog to therapy school so she can visit hospitals and such... what a great idea! (nursing homes... too?)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Springrose, are you serious!!!!!

I mean, are you freakin' serious???????

That is the most awesome dream ever. You and me, we are in tune with the universe! High Five sister! The only thing I need to know is did I have smooth, brown legs?

Swirl, we have three quilts in the works. One of them is a t-shirt quilt, yes.

springrose said...
