Inquiring Minds (and deep pockets)

My brother Stephen thought I gave up too early in the MY people vs. YOUR people contest with my MIL. He thought I should have bragged about seeing Obama at Turtle Bay.

Don't think it didn't cross my mind. But then I remembered that my MIL was with me when I saw him, and believe you me she was way more excited about seeing the Turtle Bay Buffet.

Eating at Turtle Bay with my MIL is always a What About Bob experience.

I also thought about bragging to her that I've seen Oprah at Sunday School, but then she was there for that too. Not to be rude, but you would not believe the way my MIL marched up to Oprah and hogged the conversation. Bless her heart, I couldn't get a word in edgewise.

Just saying.

So while I was blogging across Southern Utah I wanted to bring you a you-saw-it-here-first moment. My MIL has never before pumped gas. She's never taken a photograph either. I wasn't successful at getting her to pump gas, but I did force her at gunpoint to take her first photo.

You saw it here first.

I also wanted to bring you an old-habits-die-hard moment and there is one habit that's hard to break when we drive to St. George. You probably know what it is, huh?

That's right, we stop in Beaver to buy cheese curd.

And ice cream.

You too can enjoy delicious jalepeno or salsa cheese curd, or jalepeno or salsa ice cream by looking for this sign:

Okay, so every time I drive to St. George there is this certain mysterious sign that intrigues me more and more:

Can somebody please tell me what great things are happening in Parowan?

Inquiring minds want to know! Really super bad!

Inquiring minds also want to know what everyone thinks about the latest Hunger Games book. Huh? Huh? Huh?

I haven't read it yet because I've been so busy dropping $700 on school fees, supplies and lunch $$$.

Half of that went solely towards my daughter's fees. No lie. But then the school gave me a free t-shirt.

After I picked up the t-shirt the snotty nosed kid said, "hey lady, you forgot to say thank you."

"For what?" I said.

"For the free t-shirt."

"What free t-shirt? This is the most expensive t-shirt I've ever purchased."

Was that rude? Cause he shoulda been thanking me, right?

Thank goodness for my twins cute little neighbor friends for getting my boys all pumped up about shopping for school clothes at D.I. Seriously, they made D.I. sound like Disneyland until my boys were practically begging me to take them there. Thank you cute neighbor boys for saving me a whole lotta back-to-school cash.

Another great savings was Mockingjay (third Hunger Games book). Did anyone else only have to pay $12.59 or was that just my daughter?

That Suzanne Collins is very fiscally responsible. She could have exploited our passionate desire to get our hands on that book at any cost.

Wanna see my daughter this morning before she won her 3rd tennis match as a varsity player?

Wanna see her after she won her 3rd tennis match as a varsity player?

It's 11:30 p.m. and school starts tomorrow, but I bet if I burst into her room right now with my camera I'd catch her still reading.

Want me to check?

brb

hee hee

Gosh Darnit, that gosh darn girl is so gosh darn responsible. She's sound asleep.

I better learn from her gosh darn example.

Night night!

P.S. I just realized I never told your inquiring minds the two perfect songs that Jack Johnson opened and closed his concert with. I thought Martha would guess it fer shore but she didn't.

He opened with his new hit single, "You and Your Heart" and closed with my favorite, "Better Together."

Oh my goodness LOVE LOVE the beaver cheese factory. But I am especially partial to the lemon custard ice cream, which is a special flavor and they don't always make it. So now I have the cheese factory on speed dial and I actually call them from the free to see if they have lemon custard ice cream, because I can't stand the disappointment if they dont. And now I am a snob because if they don't have it I don't stop, simple as that. and then I get my cheese curds from the gas station in St George. True story.

Shoot I forgot to guess about the opening and closing songs of JJ's concert. I would've so guessed those if I would've remembered. Does that count?

Congrats to Tate for the big wins and to Dix for the first pic.

You guys are finally starting school? My kids have been going for three weeks and no furlough days this year. They are really struggling having to go for 5 whole days in a row!

Rach has her 1st volleyball game on Thurs. It's not varsity, and she won't start, but she'll be the cutest and the blondest one there. Well the only blond one.

You only had to spend that much on school fees huh?
That kind of talk makes me glad that I'm an empty nester.
Eeks!
What are you going to do with all your free time now?
I hope to see you in a apron setting the table for a nutritious meal that you spent all day baking!
Please take a picture of that K?

From the city of Parowan website: "Start your engines at the Demolition Derby at the Iron County Fair. Dirt flys as mini cars race and Demolition cars crash. Starts at 7 p.m. in the grandstands. For more information call the Iron County Fair Office at 435-477-8380".

I don't know, "flying dirt" sounds pretty great. It's this Saturday, wanna go?

It's also 65 degrees in Parowan today. That's a great temperature.

I love the cheese factory! And I do love Parowan. And you are the 3rd person this week I have heard talk about Hunger Games. Never heard of it. Am I a loser? Nobody tells me anything.

I have to admit, we have gotten some awesome treasures at the D.I I had to laugh when Caleb wanted to wear one of his shirts from the D.I rather than the ones we bought at Dillards for school today? Go figure~ I love buying cheese curd there when we head down south. I love rubbery cheese. Hehehe

MMMMMMMMM, Cheese curd! Around these parts we call it squeaky cheese. My grandma always had a supply of it in her refrigerator.
Speaking of my grandma, she once took a picture of us with our camera, and when we got the film developed, we had a lovely, up close photo of her eye.

Cheese curds! I haven't had those in forever. What I remember: SQUEAKY!

DD13 and I are fighting over Mockingjay. She gets to read it when she's home, I get it when she's at school. I have about 25 minutes left. Gotta get crackin!

Oh my, I'm so outta the pop culture loop! I kept seeing people put up FB statuses about something called mockingjay. And I was like, "what the...?" Had to google it. My tread gene is sadly lacking.

P.S. I started another blog and it's kinda ticking off my family. Oh well!

Oh Alyson, do tell! Do tell! I like the fact that you have a blog that ticks your family off. I must read it. And get into the loop girl! HUNGER GAMES ROCKS SO HARD!

Even Annette Lyon thinks go.

Annette, my daughter took our copy to school. DRAT! Technically I guess it's her copy since she paid the $12.59 for it.

Jillybean ha ha ha ha That's a classic about your grandma.

Jodi, my boys too. hee hee

Queenie, you crack me up. Nobody tells me anything either.

Vern, you totally crack me up. I love your Parowan report. ha ha demolition derby, huh? Let's DO IT! Next year. Me and you. It's a plan.

Garden, in your dreams, girlfriend. Although I could take photographic evidence of me in an apron.

Ha ha ha Thanks for putting that in the proper perspective. I'm pumped to crush my DIL.

Martha, ha ha ha you crack me up. I just see you talking when I read you. Rach definitely wins the blondest comp. btw, just between me and you, T beat the #3,4 and 5 singles on her varsity team. Shouldn't she be moving up? Her serve is looking so pretty now. We played tons of tennis with the twins in St. George. Made me think of you. :(

Nutty, what? Wait! You get your cheese curds at a gas station in St. George? Do tell!

The one-up-man-ship with your MIL is too funny!

If you find out what's in Parowan let me know too - it's a big mystery - when I was a kid I thought it was where they made wax - go figure?

My kids stole my Mockingjay book from me - I hope to get to read it soon...sometime.

We haven't even bought the third Hunger Games even though my husband is really pushing me too. Maybe next year. : )

Your daughter is so gosh darned responsible. If my husband didn't work late, I'd probably follow her example as well!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh Amber, you have no idea how responsible she is. It's almost criminal.
