Drumroll Please . . . we got our Utah callings

So you want to hear more about my gigi, huh?

Okay, but can I first just tell you about how bad we/(I) messed up on our/(my) talk(s) at church.

We/(I) messed up so bad that guess what callings we got?  Activities committee members. That was our(my) punishment!  And the bishopric says they're looking forward to a Christmas Luau.
YIKERS!  I wish I had paid more attention at the Polynesian Cultural Center when they roasted that pig thingie in that ground thingie.

We/(I) actually messed up so bad on our talk(s) that we got TWO callings.  We're teaching Sunday School too!  Ahhhh!  The 14-15 year olds.  Ahhhh!

But I already have my first lesson planned: Rock Climbing the chapel wall.

Mwuahaha!!!!!!!

And while we're climbing I'm going to pop in some Miley Cyrus It's the Climb into the boom box behind the sacrament table.  That's a really spiritual song if you think about it, and it can easily accompany any gospel lesson.

I've officially decided that my ward is uber cool.  You would not believe what happened.  When we said "Aloha, brother's and sisters!"  They all said, "ALOOOOOHA!" back.

Each time we said it, they said it LOUDER.  And they smiled when they said it.  If I liked adverbs I would say they smiled HUGELY!  But I despise adverbs so I will just say they BEAMED!

So after my kids were done speaking I got up (and I think this might be where I messed up) and instead of saying ALOOOOOOHA at the top of my lungs, I yelled "WE GOT the SPIRIT, YES WE DO!  WE GOT the SPIRIT, how 'bout YOU!"

And would you believe it, they yelled it right back.  And some of them even got up and did a herkie.

It was awesome!  My new ward may be weird, but they are wicked awesome weird!

(So do you think that's why we got called to be on the activities committee?)

Drat! My hub is dragging me off to bed.  (such a kill joy!)  I'll hafta tell you more about my gigi tomorrow.

G' niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

I once did a post about how I hated the Aloha thing. But I only hate it from the guy who visited Hawaii once, about 10 years before, and by visiting, I mean had a layover there.

Well I suppose it could be worse. Love the idea of Miley Cyrus music lessons of life.

ALOOOOHA! (And I have NEVER been to Hawaii! hehehehe)

Activities committee AND 14&15 yr olds...I'd rather teach TWO classes of teenagers than be on the activities committee.

BTW...stop using your gigi as a lightning rod or you'll have to buy her more shoes!

The activities committee thing could be fun (as long as you're not the person in charge and have a committee who has issues about actually SHOWING UP to the activities that are planned and so you end up running the activity by yourself while trying to chase down your toddler who was fond of running out into the parking lot every time you turned your back, not that I ever had that happen to me.........)
Anyway, activities committee can be fun, but I'm pretty sure that somebody, somewhere is punishing you with that other calling.14 and 15 year olds? YIKES!
If you want to get released from that one, the thing to do is take the kids out for donuts during Sunday School. That's what my SS teacher did with us when I was that age.
It worked, he got released.
Or, you could always take them to Costco to get free samples during Sunday School, that wouldn't cost you anything.
However, rock climbing the chapel wall might just get you released too.

I really wish I could have seen your ward members doing herkies.

Lucky for you, the ground is usually frozen at Christmas time, so you won't have to do the whole pig in the ground thing...though musubi is a must! (speaking of musubi, I'm ready for my lesson whenever you are - I have my spam and seaweed ready!)

I can see it coming already. You're going to be calling me and Swirl to go to the swap meet to get your official Hawaiian supplies for this luau at Christmas.

Yesterday Josh was driving home from town from all the tennis and soccer matches (he has his permit, you know) and that song "Saturday in the Park" came on by Chicago and Josh says in a sad voice: "Alan, was singing this song one time when we were playing basketball and I had never heard it before, so I didn't know what he was singing."

Too many memories of you guys.

I just got released from teaching the same age group, and I am so depressed! I loved teaching them! Best calling EVER!

Well, I for one think the Sunday School calling is AWESOME! That's a great age, and as long as you're prepared and flexible, your experience as parents will take you far with those kids. No worries, sistah.

I've never been on the activities committee, so I have no advice to offer there. Good luck with carving out that pit in the cultural hall. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Springville requires some kinda permit to roast a pig inside a church. They're fussy that way.

And no Startled Piddling Induced Excommunication to report, eh? Faboo!

Mwahahaha! 14-15 year olds! GOOD LUCK!! You'll need it! :) Love your blog and congrats on your callings!

Congrats on the callings. They don't waste time in your ward. It took me a year and a half before I got my calling as cub scout leader. Not the funnest calling. I don't do much now since the baby. Enjoy teaching, you guys will do great

I cant believe you did the "We got spirit" and that did it back. Is that exaggerating, or for real. I never know with you.

Crash, stop by to read about the flood at my house.

Hey Tiffany, how the heck are you? Nice to see your face. Hope the healing is going well.

I've been trying to bribe the bishopric for years to give me the teenage SS class. The only thing the bribes have done for me is to keep me from being called to the Activities Committee and/or the RS presidency. Oh wait, my charity faileth - that's what's kept me out of RS.

We had Fast Sunday yesterday, so my mind seriously wandered to the brick wall on the stand and I was imagining rocks back there instead...........

Oh my goodness! I've been gone for 2 days straight doing STUFF and dealing with STUFF and trying to deal with STUFF!

Sigh.

And Funny Farmer my computer is still set to Hawaii time so THERE! I was not doing any FUNNY business so THERE! Don't you Mwuahahaha me, ya big silly goose know-it-all.

Pat, I'll stop by in the morn.

Thanks all for your words of encouragement. It seems I have a lot to look forward to.

Martha, that is sad, and cute, that story about Josh. How sweet the impressions on one innocent moment. MISS YOU! Are you coming at Christmas?

MAHALO to the person who emailed me the Luau hookups in Utah. LOL! That was awesome.

g'night!

Tiffany, I went and witnessed the talk. It was very enjoyable. My wife even said she would look forward to church EVERY week with speakers like her. The "We got spirit" comment was a joke, but her whole family said "Aloha."

The herkie was the one cheerleading jump I could never do. Sigh.

You bring back so many memories of my childhood with your writing. I'm gonna like your novels better than Barbara Kingsolver's.

I miss you!! We haven't been in touch for too long, I had no idea you were in Utah. I need to do some serious back reading (I've been a blog recluse the past few months in order to retain my sanity and keep my laundry done.)

And yay for the Activities Committee! I'm the chairperson in our ward and it's truly a call from the Big Man.
