The sCRAPbook of my soul

But first, an update on "the book" situation?

It's 10:48 p.m. and Percy Jackson just got turned into a guinea pig on page 179, therefore twin #1 is not quite ready to GET TO BED!

Twin #2 is not quite ready to GET TO BED either because on page 228 a monster is trying to eat a boy.

We're on pins and needles around here, peeps!

Especially me, as I'm on the verge of turning into a monster myself and eating a couple of boys if they don't GET TO BED!

That wasn't very convincing, was it?

I should have said GET TO BED! (Without the giddy grin.)

It's just that I've waited 11 years to see my boys crack open a book of their own free will and choice.

Free will and choice is the most bee-U-tiful thing in the history of the world (when people actually choose what YOU want them to choose).

My son is quoting me his favorite line over and over like a stand-up comic:

"Anna Beth slipped. Fortunately, something caught her fall. Unfortunately, it was my face."

Oh, he's cracking himself up.

Are you getting bored with my book talk, yet?

Let's talk about music then.

Last Saturday was my mom's 66th birthday--Go, mom--and guess what my sis and I gave her?

Tickets to see Muse in concert.

Is that amusing, or what?

We gave her Muse tickets because sometimes when we call her she's out of breath and we say, "why are you huffing and puffing? Are you blowing that little pig's house down again?" And she says "No, I'm just dancing to Muse."

Even more amusing, right?

My mom doesn't actually know Muse all that well. She's just using their Super Massive Black Hole to get into the Twilight Zone.

Hopefully you get that allusion and that wordplay because I'm not in the mood to explain. Explanations are a pet peeve of mine.

Okay, I'll explain. Listen carefully . . .

If you're on Team Edward (like my mom) and you're a fan of vampire baseball (like my mom) you should be totally getting my allusions (and my mom's illusions) right now.

You follow?

Me neither.

So me and my sis are going to the concert too. As chaperones, of course. We need to be there to make sure my mom isn't dancing circles around all the other 66-year-old groupies at the concert. (And to get photographic evidence, in case she gets pulled up on stage.)

So I just added a few Muse songs to my playlist. And some Joshua Radin too, at Iwa's suggestion. He's got a cooool-cat vibe.

I'm totally open for more suggestions, peeps--I'm in a playlist state of mind, so bring. it. on.

You wanna know what the Old Boat Guy said about my playlist when he took me out to lunch? He said that the only thing he doesn't like about my blog is my playlist. (I took that to mean he wouldn't be interested in accompanying us girlz to the Muse concert.)

Of course I poked him in the eye because that's blasphemous.

For the record, if you don't like my playlist, you don't like ME. And if you're not listening to my playlist, you're not listening to ME.

(At least that's what I tell my hub.)

I listen to my playlist every. single. darn. day. It's the soundtrack of my life.  It's my spokesmodel. It underscores my life philosophy and expresses my world view even more precisely than my word verifier.

It says what I need to say.

(Plus it's the sCRAPbook of my soul.)

Take that, Old Boat Guy!  Hmmph!

On that note, have a good weekend everyone!!!!!!!!!

I love Muse. Can I be a chaperone! For you?

And I don't like automatic playlists. But I do like your actual music.

My son discovered the magic of Percy Jackson last year and he's on book 5 now. I don't have enough "Thank yous" in the world for Rick Riordan. It's the first time James ever wanted to read something on his own. It was a beautiful, beautiful thing when he asked to stay up late to finish a chapter, so I totally feel you.

MUSE!!!! LOVE these guys (Mat, Chris, and Dom) and have been listening to them since 2001!!! A rare feat for many bands that have come into my life. LOL.

I totally would love to see them in concert. I've heard from a friend in the UK that you haven't truly heard them unless you've seen them live. *sigh* Would love to be there in Utah to see them in concert. In fact as I write this I'm listening to their song Resistance from their new album.

You do know your coolness factor has skyrocketed with me just because you're going to their concert... not to mention the envy factor! LOL!

Since you are asking about the playlist thing I'll tell you. I love your playlist, but I'm really sick of the James Blunt song "You're Beautiful". Plus, you should've picked the clean version that says "flying high" instead of .... I'm just worried that your YW might be offended. If I listen at work I have to skip that song because we have standards to uphold here at BYU Hawaii.

A song I like is "Breakeven" by the Script. But, unlike him I do believe in God.

Ok, Ok, I will work harder and get my kids to read. Man, why do we always have to compete with you guys?

So yesterday I took Rach to tennis with the high school's team. There were like 10 beginner girls, with Jack Kramer Autographs (you'll have to ask Al what they are). Anyway they are standing around waiting while the 10 other intermediate girls who could actually hit a ball played. I said, "Hey I'm here to help, can I feed some balls or something." And she says, "I'm fine".

So I went off and started watching the BYU team guys who were playing doubles with these pro guys who were practicing for a tourney in town. They were using these funky two handled racquets. So after they let me and Rach try some out. Pretty weird. They are called Natural Tennis and they are trying to market them.

Anyway the point of my story is why won't she let me help?

Here is my book update. Nolan finished it yesterday, when he was home sick, right before he ran to the church to play basketball.

And he already started the next book. He insisted I buy it for him before he even finished the first one.

I am not a fan of playlists, not even mine. But I am a HUGE fan of yours. :-D

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Kristina P. I'm going to count that as you like me and you listen to me. Even though you don't actually listen to me, per say.

High Five Melanie J. And I'm smiling about Nolan, LoW. I hope I get to meet him someday so I can follow him around and take pictures of him for my blog. I know how he lubs that. Anyone who fakes sick to read is my kinds a cool.

Thanks for LIKING AND LISTENING TO ME!

Martha, I actually updated my playlist this very morning and that song is gone. I've always tried to avoid falling short of BYU-Hawaii's standards. ;)

I have no idea why ____ will never let you help. You're so helpful!!! Doesn't she know that? But two handled rackets? That's just beyond my imagination.

Yay Lia from Laie. I'm always honored to move up on your coolness factor scale! Wish you were here to come too. I hear they put on an amazing show.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Martha, I added Break Even. I love that song. But I thought Kris Allen sung it. Weird. It sounds kinda like him.

Thanks!!!

Martha said...

I know why she won't let me help, I'm not cute enough and I'm not a man.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

ha ha Martha. And you don't have gray patch on the top of your head.

Lia, I added Resistance. I love that song too. We also bought my mom that album for her birthday. She says there are some cool symphonies on there.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Lia, have you heard Wild West Show? It's on my playlist now. It's so pretty.

Muse is like a box of chocolates too, Forrest: You never know what you're going to get.

Martha said...

Michael Buble has a new song out "Just haven't Met you Yet". Well new here in Hawaii, probably old everywhere else.

Martha said...

Where can I get me a gray patch?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

I LUB that song. It was new here about September. hee hee

I had it on my playlist for a few months but it's no longer available on Playlist.com so, sadly, it's gone.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh, and a can of spray paint at ACE oughta do the trick with the gray patch.

Martha said...

It's there, don't type in just. Only Haven't met you.

What I'm disappointed is playlist.com doesn't have any James Taylor. I mean come on.

Martha said...

I really should be working and not goofing around.

No way WF says mormorb. What does that mean?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

That playlist.com is so particular. Okay, I've added it back. Thanks. Now stop playing around and get back to work.

I used to LUB James Taylor. But I kinda got over it, a little bit.

Mormorb? Haven't you heard? It's that orbit we all walk around in here in Utah. And there at BYU-Hawaii.

First of all---I thought the monster was trying to eat a satyr. Just sayin. Love those books.

Second of all---I love Muse even more!! I'm so jealous you're going to the concert. I saw them in concert about 4 or 5 years ago and they are AMAZING!! One of the few bands I've seen that I thought were better live than on CD. I could go on and on...but I'm not gonna.

Third---I love Josh Radin, too. I'm also very much loving Marie Digby and the Weepies these days. Nice, chill stuff.

Kritta22 said...

Kritta doesn't listen to blogs...she reads them.

Me no likey automatic playlists.

I mute my computer while I blog read...and listen to the American's worst cooks or Chopped or something else with food.

This prego has to listen to other people eat, even though she can't eat most of the time.

Why am I switching back and forth between first and third person?

Kritta22 said...

but I'm with Kristina P...I enjoy your actual music! :)

This book is starting to sound like Harry Potter...

is it??

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

My son is into this book we bought him for Christmas named, "Knights of Right". He loves it. His first chapter book. it is most bee-u-tiful!

I love your play list. I would suggest Joshua Radin also but IWA is like 500 steps ahead of me. So is the rest of the world. But ya know what?

I've decided that looking at everyone's behinds isn't all that bad... makes me laugh sometimes also :)

So just "say what you need to say" okay?

Love ya!

The Songer said...

Martha.. On playlist .com, you can upload music into the site to share with the rest of the world....

if it is not there and you dont have it.. (for the rest of you who dont want to hear this close your ears and start practiving your scalea..LA LA LA LA LA LA)... go to beemp3.com and search for the song, then download it for free (LA LA LA LA LA LA) ... and then upload it into playlist.com

Crash... I will up load more josh radin into playlist.com, so there is more of a variety.. He's awesome!

I <3 that your kids are reading... Usually I have to threaten my kids and take away play time, in order to make them read! and I finally found a series that my 8yr old loves.. its about two sisters (witches) who dont get along (who would of thought that all the fighting she does with her sister would interest her in a book)!! yay for authors who can get through to my kids!

I loved the FROG thingy from yesterday (i was thinkin abou it all evening)

BTW... i <3 your playlist.. i listen to it while i clean, while im studying, writing evals, making lesson plans, doing math homework! For a while when I was down and needed some inspiration, i would turned click on the link to your page and listen to what kind of message the universe was trying to send to me that day!

Seriously, what is it with those Percy Jackson books??!?!??!! I'VE READ THEM, OK? They're good, but they're not THAT good. Harry Potter is 10 times better. All the battles are stale, just lifted right out of the original Greek myths. I know, I used to read those. They're funny, but they're not THAT funny. They're not THAT well written. They're not even THAT romantic. SO WHY ARE THEY SO POPULAR???

(I liked them, BTW)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

hahahaha High Five for Migillicuty. She's got sass. I am so going to go read Percy Jackson books this weekend so I can see if she's right or just extra critical. Usually I'm the one who's extra critical. I shy away from fads and trends. But Migillicuty, when you're raising your little boys, in about 15 years, believe me, you will be biting your nails for the day they get sucked into the world of words, FINALLY! Migillicuty, I take it you're not a Muse fan? Hows about Twilight? What did you think of that? I need to go read that too.

YAY Iwa for being really listening to me. You prolly know me better than anyone now. ;) And THANKS for the TIP LALALALALALALA. I've been wondering how to do that forever. I want to upload some Cubworld. Iwa, what the name of the witches who fight book?

HI SHELLE! I always lub seeing you here. I'm going to try that book. And have you ever noticed that from behind everyone looks like someone you know?

Okay Kritta, what's the difference between automatic playlist and actual music? I don't get it, girl.

BARB, you are just too cool for words. Holy Cow! Whodathunk you went so deep musically. I LUBBED your suggestions last year so I going to check out those weepy Digby girls.

:)

Martha said...

And here I thought I was clever for downloading from youtube with youtube downloader. I'll check out beemp3.com. Thanks Iwa.

April said...

Um...I must confess.....I don't listen to any playlists. Even if it is the sCRAPbook of your soul. I can't handle listening to the background of sports coming from the tv AND music together. It rattles my brain. Will you still lub me?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Of course I still LUB you, April! You silly goose.

LiafromLaie said...

CRASH!!! I can't believe I've never heard of "Wild West Show" ! Although it reminds me of Mandy Moore's "Only Hope". Was that song on an album? Cause I know a lot of the songs I like by Muse are usually released as an added song to their singles. Like "Glorious" is a personal fave. But was it on the last album? Nope. And that's why I love these guys.

And can I just say that this is now my favorite blog post just for the sheer fact that Migillicutty mentioned Harry Potter in her comment. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and the fact that it's mentioned along with Muse just makes this blog post da bomb! I just have to say though that nothing will ever compare to Harry Potter but it's good to get kids reading and their minds thinking.

Late to the party again. Two more weeks and I can regain cyber space when my temporary job ends. Wahoo. 37 hours two weeks ago and 48 hours last week. Who knew working could be so much work?

LY you guys.

I was rude and insencetive and.....

I should have explained WHY I don't like playlists, not only yours, but anyones. I have a one track mind. I can't read and listen to music..I can't listen to music and think. If I can turn them off, fine.

So I beg forgivness. Unless this is too late for your perusing. Unless I have committed the unpardenable sin.

Who is Muse????
