Thank You Universe!

Dear Peeps,

I miss you, do you miss me? Yes or No? Please write back.

P.S. I think I LY.

P.S.S. XoXoX

.................................

My sincerest apologies for not doing my visiting teaching to each of your blogs this past week. I am up to my eyeballs in little boys and Doritos and Code Red Mountain Dew right now.

In fact, I have a whole case of little boys on my living room floor at this very moment because my rockstar brother and his family are visiting.

And I have a whole case of Code Red in my fridge right now because my rockstar student, Juicebox, doesn't read anything I assign. He says he just wants me to teach him how to write, but he doesn't want to jump through any hoops. He'd rather just give me guilt gifts and text me smiley faces to try to melt my stone cold heart.

Ironically I don't even drink Code Red. I only let my blog drink it, while my body drinks Code V-8.

Well don't tell my body, but I'm totally strung out on Code Red right now--flying sky high.

Do you want me to tell you a story since I'll be awake for a while?

Today my daughter played a 3 hour tennis match!

She is a freshman playing 2nd singles on the high school varsity team. (Was that TMI? In a Braggedy-Ann sense?)

She fought her little heart out for every single point.

I had to rub my eyes to make sure that was her pumpin' her fist and kickin' A. She won the first set in a tie-breaker. Then lost the second set in a tie-breaker.

Instead of playing a third set they played a super tie-breaker--first to 10 points. She lost 8-10 but it was the most gorgeous loss I've ever seen in my life.

Does that look like the smile of a loser?

Well it is.

But let me back up.

By the time she was half-way through her second set all the other matches were over. Slowly but surely the whole tennis team began to gather around to watch my daughter.

Picture the courts surrounded by a tall fence and screened with a windbreaker. You can just barely make out the figures gathering outside the screen, but you can hear them saying your daughter's name, encouraging her to hang tough.

You can do it!

Don't give up!

Keep fighting!

You're not tired!

You can take her!

How do you describe that feeling?

By the end of the match the crowd was breaking into wild applause every time my daughter won a point.

I was thinking about how cool it is to have people in your corner--people on the other side of the fence cheering you on when you want to give up and applauding you when you don't.

If I know the universe as well as I think I do, I bet every single one of us has a huge stadium of fans on the other side of the screen, eating hot dogs and popcorn and cheering us on from the sidelines.

Thank you Universe! We couldn't do it without you!

btw, we caught that runaway cockroach in our van. Here's photoGRAPHIC evidence that it's still in pampers:

(Three foot cockroach my eye!! Silly goose Mom!)

P.S. You better stop telling my mom she's adorable because it's going to her head.

Look at her going all Mary Poppins on me in her fit flip shoes that exercise her calves and buns while she just sits there blinking and shrugging and looking cute.

Way to go Crash Kid! Tennis is awesome. I'm good at it. Okay I wish I were any good at staying in the lines but other than that...have racket will hit fuzzy green-yellow ball.

So the student likes code red huh? Is that how you've taken to motivating them now? Slippin' em stuff?

Wow---that whole we all have people cheering thing you said was really neat, Crash. Thanks for that. It's always good to remember---cuz I definitely think it's true.

Ooh, I love the term Braggedy-Ann! I might not know the universe as well as you but I totally agree about the team on the other side. In fact, I'm pretty darn sure of it.

Love the thoughts of those cheering us on. I need to remember that more often.

And good job for your daughter! I don't think you were Braggedy-Ann-ing at all.

Just SO said...

Sounds like a great match and I love the smile on her face! She is really a winner.

And I think you are right about those that are out there cheering us on. I just wish we could hear them better.

Those shots are totally amazing! I'm sure she will be dating Pete Sampras in no time. Is he still alive?

OK, Andy Roddick. Much cuter.

But your Mom IS cute!!!

And how great for your daughter!! And the cheering, oh man, that would make me cry.

(Did I ever tell you I cry every time my kids are in something? Whether gymnastics or a musical or whatever? What's up with that? I even cry when watching the Olympics. And I hate crying- crying is for babies!!)

But seriously, that would have done me in.

I love the universe. That tennis story got me all teary.

Yes! Totally miss you, but I understand how being up to your eyeballs in little boys can be a little distracting.

I think you should pinch that Juicebox guy. Kids nowadays. They think they know everything!!

I need flip flops that turn my buns into steel...

Your daughter rocks - what a great rocking the world but losing the match smile!

Now when I'm going crazy (daily) I'm going to envision my big chain-link wind break fence full of folks cheering me on - that's a super analogy... that might just make it to the pulpit :)

Love it! eyes got a little watery on this one. I'm pretty sure your daughter will not remember that she lost, but that she had all that cheering going on. Have a great time with the rock star brother and all those little boys!

I meant to say my eyes got sweaty - NOT watery duh.

Thanks for the reminder of our cheering squad... also made me think that not only is there so many people cheering us on but we have an Official making sure that we have every chance to win.

This post made me smile and that in and of itself is awesome since I was too tired to smile before I read your blog :)

Your daughter is totally impressive! Looks a LOT like you, too!

I would have cheered if my hubby would listen to me and we moved to Hawaii!

WV- claporo- see, even the blogosphere knows I would have been clapping!

MakingChanges said...

new WV is fandemon. Now, we could say this 2 ways-

Fan-demon- which isn't so nice. A demon fan is a crazy!

The way I prefer is fan-dem-on. See again, the blogosphere knows me. I would cheer or fan-dem-on!

Why does she look so awesomely athletic?
You should come take pictures of me.

Sorry if it messes with the egos around your place, but seriously you have the cutest people on your family group sheet!

My WV is creapa. Hm...sorry?

I wonder how we can increase our ability to hear those cheering us on? My hearing seems a little impaired lately. Perhaps it is due to the rock concerts my 17 year old puts on in my living room daily.

Your daughter looks awesome. Good luck with your case of boys.

My son's Patriarchal Blessing tells him that he is presided over by a "council of Grandfathers". Yeah, believe it: Those that are with us are greater than those that are against us.

And your daughter is adorable. Tell her Sister DeNae thinks she's a winner, since the only way I'd make it through a 3 hour tennis match is if I was translated some time during the first 10 minutes.

Your daughter is amazing...I have a hard time keeping the tennis ball from NOT going over the fence...I'm just really powerful, or I like to tell myself that!

We have MISSED you...and I LY too!!!

Your daughter is a mini you....and you are a mini of your mom...did that make sense? I am just not making sense since my eyes started sweating like Sandi's! sheeeesh!

Anjeny said...

Fantastic job T!! I guess jocks and brainiacs run in your family uh? She looks like a super duper winner!!

I like the idea of the cheering fans like everyone else and like HC, I'd like to hear those cheers loud sometimes but you see, my hearing is also messed up due to all the loud music I used to drown out my kids' whinings..LOL.

Thanks for the post Crash, very thoughtful of you to keep us entertained.

What a wonderful losing smile your daughter has, and she looks just like you.

We need more gracious losers in the world - and winners for that matter.

I heard T did awesome again today. J's opponent was really good, but J took the first set from him. Then the kid got his act together and came back. Oh well.

I love your Ma, Crash. I really do. But can you send her home so you can get back to blogging, pretty please? ''

I know you cute mom personally and she is adorable as ever.
Congrats to your awesome daughter and her mad tennis skills. I couldn't even walk for 3 hours let alone play tennis. So great!
