My Favorite Student

Eww, that creepy spider . . . It gives me electric guitar goosebumps whenever I scroll past it.

Such a rush! (In a you-make-me-feel-like-river-dancing kinda way.)

So I'm going to to start My Favorite Student post NOW.

But I'm not going to finish it. This is just a trailer for My Favorite Student post--a teaser, if you will.

Actually, it's not even that exciting. It's just the introduction and the thesis statement so I can knock that creepy spider off the front page.

The post is done, and my favorite student has been selected, but I haven't added the photos because I have so much grading and prepping to do for my night class tonight that my head just might burst if I try to blog my brains out too.

So don't grab any popcorn just yet.

And don't blink because you'll miss the previews if you do.

......................................................

The thing I love about students is that they're young and dumb.

It's such a charge to rub shoulders with all these whipper snappers who haven't been squashed by life yet--who haven't been smacked around or run down or dropped kicked by reality. It's refreshing--all that false hope and possibility they exude, as if they're about to grab life by the booty.

The most gratifying thing about being a teacher is that I get to be the one to burst their glittery bubbles. I get to look them square in the face and say, "No, you'll never be a jukebox hero with stars in your eyes. And Yes, (Virginia) Santa did get run over by a reindeer."

(Hey, I'm just the messenger!)

Someday when they're bored and lonely and disillusioned they'll look back on my class and say, "she told me so!"

I love my job!

And I love my students.

And despite what everyone says, teachers DO have favorites. Let's be honest.

My morning class thinks they know who my favorite is.

April thinks it's Benjamin Buttars.

INSERT PHOTO HERE.

Why would Benjamin Buttars be my favorite student? Just because he looks like a sparkly vampire, has a rock band and played Jean Valjean in Ideeho summer stock.

April, paleease! I'm not that easily impressed.

I would pick April over Benjamin Buttars because she's on the BYU-H softball team. But then softball players are annoying, so on second thought . . .

..................................................

What are you lookin' at? That's all you get today.

buh-bye now.

I have had a chuckle in my heart all day because I have pictured you doing the river dance with the spider...or by the spider or on the spider or whatever..too funny!

ha ha Sandi. I'm glad you enjoyed the image. It was spine tingling river dancing. That's fo' sure.

And Suli is definitely one of my favorite students. He can be a whole lot of fun.

How was your weekend getaway?

I'm totally with you on the having favorites thing. That's one of the reasons I knew I couldn't be a teacher---not only would I HAVE favorites, but I would be obvious about having said favorites. I'm guessing that would be bad.

THANK YOU for removing the spider from the top of your blog! Most appreciative, ma'am!

My mom and I were just lamenting the fact that we didn't live in Hawaii...and then we remembered the bugs...the dark side of paradise!

wv: hydondip - something chemistry students make to bring to a party with chips!

(ya gotta get it where you can.)

Crash, you're such a tease. I might have to drink code red and stay up late just to find out who it is!
Or not, because I'm exhausted. And I don't like pop.

I KNOW that if I were ever in your class I would be your favorite...I just KNOW it! :)

I can't wait to find out who it is! ;)

No way Shelle, I would definitely be the fav- unless we were in different classes I guess.
Once again Mariko cracks me up.
Crash, my weekend was WONDERFUL and I totally think it should be a law that Mom's get to run away once in awhile!

I;m doing my own river dance, but it is a dance of happiness becausa I won April's spare ticket to see wicked. Lucky me.

And Shelle, I would be the favorite. I am sure. It might be fun to watch all of us fight over who gets to sit in the front.

Can't wait for the rest of the story.

This post puts me in mind of the fact that I have now seen Twilight and didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. That's saying a lot.

Oooh Jason, are you smack talking me? In public? Calling me a liar liar pants on fire? In front of my peeps?

Them's fightin' words!

(Even if they are true.) Have a little compassion for your ole' teach. You guys are making me work too hard.

And Sandi YOU would definitely be my favorite. And so would YOU Shelle, and YOU would too Pat!

Mariko, are you calling me a TEASE? In public?

I'll take you all on! Meet me behind the tennis courts after school.

Okay, tonight is definitely a CODE RED night! Thank goodness my favorite student in my night class brought me one tonight instead of an apple.

Hahaha you didn't finish the post but didn't want to get in trouble for not telling us your favorite student!

I see your ways, Crash!!
