I'm a grandma!

My husband lubbed my last post so much he says I can count it as my valentine to him. (YAY, I'm off the hook.)

He said that post made him want to give me 100 fortune cookies just to see which ones will actually come true.

But he thinks that should count as his valentine to me. (cheap skate!)

It didn't take me long to figure out that he didn't actually read my post, he skimmed it and missed the whole point.

He thought I was seriously going to put on my flawless bronze legs and my thong and call him Jack in a Brazilian accent.

HELLO! I thought I made it perfectly clear that I left my flawless bronze legs in my pre-mortal life. I haven't seen them since 1967. And the only body part that has ever worn a thong is my feet.

Hey, guess what!? I don't need thereapy afterall. I found a Jack that I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH.

Jack Weyland. I don't love Jack Weyland!!!

When I read his book Sam in college, I tore it to pieces, poured Mountain Dew all over it and started it on fire. That was during my feminist phase so I threw my bra into the fire too.

And then I made s'mores.

When life hands you lemons, make s'mores. That's what I always say.

So peeps, I've been absent yet present again. It's because my daughter has been in labor.

It's so hard to watch your daughter in labor.

She's only 14 so of course it wasn't baby labor, it was mental labor.

But giving birth to ideas is exactly the same process as giving birth to babies.

An idea must be conceived then carried in your mind while it grows and grows until it makes you crazy uncomfortable and crazy cranky. Carrying an idea around wears you out. You begin retaining water. You get heartburn. You can't sleep at night.

And worst of all you can't fit into your old ideas anymore.

Well, this is exactly what my daughter's group has been going through with their history day project on John Adams. They have had the longest, hardest labor--with no epidural. I was tempted to perform an emergency C-section because John Adams is a huge baby! (And he has bad teeth too). He almost broke their poor little backs on his way out of their brains.

Once I got to help my neice give birth--baby birth, not idea birth. She was pushing that baby out for so long I thought her face was going to pop off. Because I hate seeing anyone curse, instinctively I jumped up and put my hands on her head and pushed down as hard as I could. Every time she pushed, I pushed.

To this day she says it didn't help her get that baby out, but I know it did.

So that's what I did for my daughter and her group last night. They were sweating and cursing and swearing they would never have another idea ever again, so I jumped up and put my hands on top of their heads and I pushed down as hard as I could until their ideas popped out.

My daughter and her group are now the proud parents of a brand new history day script.

And I'm a grandma!

(btw, love being a grandma! They have to perform it, block it, dress it, feed it, burp it and teach it how to walk. Hee hee All I have to do is sleep through the night and spoil it. I think I'm going to buy it an XBOX 360 next week. And Rock Band too, of course.)

My daughter took a sick day today but should be fully recovered shortly.

No gifts necessary, but thanks.

.....................

p.s. Here's a birthday shout out to one of my very favorite blogging buddies ever. You go, LoW. You're almost over the hill. LY, LoW!!!

Congrats on your new family addition!

And I think if you had some Jack Daniels, Jack Weyland may be more tolerable.

I've already named my hypothetical girl "Charlie."

A Grandma..congrats :) At first I was like WHAT...... you got me...lol.

Anjeny said...

LOL...That was funny. I am so glad you weren't there when I was giving birth, I don't think I can survive trying to push from both ends up of my body...LOL.

About Jack Weyland...HOW RUDE of you!! I LOVE Jack Weyland, he was carrying me around all through high school. You know how much money I saved my parents on hormone bills because of him?

Well, I guess it should be expected, I don't like your Jack Johnson, you don't like my Jack Weyland...so there, we're even..LOL.

Maybe I should have ur new ohana addition poke you in the eye this time and I'll post about it...eheheh.

I am with you on the Jack Weyland thing!I remember my sister reading them and crying their eyes out. So I thought that every good mormon girl read Charlie and Sam. So I did, so depressing. Then because I have memory loss from haveing so many kids I found Adam's story at a garage sale and thought, "Now my collection will be complete! Joy!" Wrong! Sorry but I do not like reading about pornagaphy addiction! Even in fiction! Just something that makes me uncomfortable!!

i think this is my favorite post so far, since my start of "crash" reading.
probably because my baby is SCREAMING his head off upstairs, as i try the "tough love" to get him to sleep, and it was a perfect distraction. yes...he may be frustrating me right now, but at least i'm not giving birth to him again.

Sue said...

I hear you on that whole Jack Weyland thing. I've never understood the attraction.

Congradulations to you and your daughter on the J. Adams delivery. That must have been exhausting.

Sandi said...

:O Anjeny doesn't like JJ??????

Sandi said...

LOL at "the only part of my body that ever wore a thong is my feet" haha. My girls cringe every time I call flip-flops thongs. But they are thongs as everyone knows. I am so glad that you're daughter has presented you with such a lovely grandchild- especially since she was just playing in a state soccer game last week...she is amazing! And I hope she fits into her old ideas soon (or do I?)Sometimes it's good to move on to new ideas, which is what she did..so yay!
Yep, Jack W means well, but he has got to stop. just saying. I did think of another Jack that I lurve...Jackie Chan! Love him.
Enjoy the fortune cookies- (in bed)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

My verifier say couth. As opposed to uncouth. hee hee

YAY Kristina's first. As it should be.

Sorry Anjeny. I should have read him in high school before I hit my feminist stage. I only really read Sam so I can't judge. And I have met him in person and I know first hand he doesn't make me think deep thoughts about kissing.

So go ahead, poke me in the eye and get it over with. But then I'm going to smack you in the nose for not liking JJ. WHAT THE WHAT?

Springrose, hear ya! Love your new profile pic in sepia tone lovin'

YAY AniC. I'm glad I could make you appreciate what you've got. And YES Sue Ann, I'm exhausted, she's exhausted. Wouldn't you like to be exhausted too. be exausted, be be exhausted.

(You have to sing that part to the Dr. Pepper commercial, in case you hadn't figured that out.)

Sandi, hahahahaha YOU KILL ME. you really crack me up. You really need to get your own tamn blog so you can crack us all up on a regular basis.

That soon to be SIL of yours sure is love sick for your daughter. I can tell by the look on his face while I'm teaching class. He's in la la land. Great kid though. Great student.

Just SO said...

I can really see how pushing on her face would really have helped your niece push that baby out. She's crazy if she can't see it! Congrats on the John Adams baby...spoil him good.

Sandi said...

Crash! That was very nice to give me good news concerning the SIL- I have met him once, but that could not possibly tell me whether or not he was a good student. haha. If I did have a blog I would be confessing to you all right now about how annoyed that I am that AI has the ability to make me cry. The tears were rolling down my face tonight. I am pathetic. and oh, if I had a blog I would also use it to poke Anjeny in the eye for not liking JJ....FO REALS

Sandi said...

So....will you be called Granny Crash or Granny Dummy?

TisforTonya said...

KP - you can name a hypothetical girl Charlie all you want, but keep her away from any hypothetical Sams because the rest of us might just barf... hypothetically...

and ditto to Anjeny - I'll be happy with the epidural over someone shoving my head any day!

Anjeny said...

Ahem...I feel I should clarify or maybe elaborate on my last post so Crash, you and Sandi can stop looking at me like I've suddenly grown two gigantic heads on my shoulder.

First...when I said I LOVE Jack Weyland, I meant I love his work. I love reading him but that's not to say that if I see him in person, I would want to think deep thoughts about kissing either.

I joined the church at a very critical time in my life, in high school. And it's high school the size of Kahuku High and Inter..there were only three of us LDS when I started high school and when I leave high school, there were a total of ten of us LDS.

So reading Jack Weyland helped me all through high school what's with all the pressures that come just from being a teenager and surrounded by non LDS whose morality value totally down on the low of the low on the list of good standing.

As for the infamous JJ...I'm sorry but it doesn't matter how much I listen to him sing, how much I see pictures of him or even hear about all the good things about him..and I do believe he's a great guy..I just can't bring myself to go all ga ga over him. Like all famous people, I believe he puts on his pants one leg at a time and like all famous people who I fell head over heels in love with their songs or acts, I still can't bring myself go crazy over them.

I will however stand on the sideline and cheer you on Crash on your amazing photographic talent of JJ and your encounters with him and heck, I'll even go out on campaign rally to get you to go on tour with him or have him write you into his song, cuz I'm that kind of friend.

So, now you can punch me in the nose, just please, I beg you, do NOT use the Kung Fu Panda kick on me...I need at least some functional part of my body to tackle my hormonal teenagers...ahahah.

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

I can only imagine you pushing on people's heads...that is TOO great!

And I am NOT saying congrats on being a Grandma because that would mean I WOULD TOO soon be a Grandma or a Great TWIN or something...and I'm just still to young for that!

But way to be the DOOLA in that whole scenario!

Who is doing the baby shower? Cause I'd like to bring truffles?

I loved Charly. What gives Crash??

nevadanista said...

I'm proud to say I've never EVER read one single LDS fictional novel - or historical novel :) I'm a church lit. snob that way.

Oh wow! I never know if your going to make me laugh or cry. Today you made me laugh(Sometimes I do both). You give birth a lot of really great blog posts! That's all I'm sayin'

Anjeny said...

Whoa that was too long a comment..
sorry Crash.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

To clarify, I love Charlie (the movie) never read the book. I hated Sam. Sorry. I think I was too old when I read it and too rebellious against the traditional Mormon ways. Plus I am an LDS lit snob too.

But I LOVE ANJENY. And I love that JW helped you through your teen years. And I love that you cheer me on. YOU are a great friend like that. Even if I have to punch you in the nose every so often. That's what friends do.

Ha ha So. That was goooood.

Sandi, I can't wait to watch AI now. I've missed the whole season because of my night class. Has KK posted her DA encounter yet?

I think I prefer Crash Test Granny. Or CTG.

YAY Lo is bringing truffles. Can't wait for the shower.

And Shelle I think you're at least 10 years younger than me anyway. Our poor virtual mom.

Nevada, MAHALO! And high five.

Sandi said...

No Archie post yet- KK is way to stressed out and trying to put all her effort into NOT killing "the chun" as she calls her.
I am dying to see it and am going to go bug her right now about getting that up for me!

Your creativity knows no bounds. (I loved Charlie but was pretty mad after Sam, too)

I'm never up this late, I know it's not late in Hawaii, but here in AZ, L-A-T-E. For me anyway. I'm lame (and tired)like that.

I'm an LDS book snob too, I have actually been called an all around book snob before, and I'm not one bit ashamed of that.

CTG, I love hip granny's who think up hip nicknames to be called by the offspring of their offspring.
(can you imagine the author of that confusing sentence being called a book snob? Me either.)

Jillybean said...

I have never read a Jack Weyland book.

I haven't read the Twilight series either.

Congratulations on the History day script. We recently had a very similar experience with a science fair project.

Hi Miss Heidi. You made my list of ladies I love.

Sue Ann, I so love you. And get you.

Jillybean, I love your profile pic. It fits your profile name perfectly. And confession, I haven't read the T word either. T, I wasn't talking about you, btw.

P.S. I'm getting a little discouraged with all the LDS fiction bashing because that's what I write. Don't be afraid to say you like the LDS stuff if you do. I've started finding some pretty great stuff over this last year. Some major suckage, too, but also good stuff.

Jillybean said...

I am SO sorry I used the "T" word. Will you forgive me? I promise I'll never do it again.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Jillybean, don't listen to Sandi. She goes to bed at 7:59, what does she know.

And Sandi, I LOVE your inspirational story. And TAMN just posted my button so I hope your beautiful story gets some exposure tomorrow.

Melanie, COOL BEANS! I mean that in two ways. Cool beans that came out of your sons head. And cool beans that you write LDS fiction. I am so going to buy what you write. And LDS fiction needs you, girl. Hey, can you drop some names of your recommendations of good LDS fiction. Please please pretty please

Mariko said...

I'm pretty sure they excommunicate you for not being in love with Jack Weyland.
Me, when I was in high school, I brought those books to church and considered it totally acceptable to read them during sacrament meeting.
You should write some good mormon teen literature and make a bazillion dollars. Apparently the mormon audience is bigger than I thought.
I'm so glad she got through that labor. Hopefully the baby will be sleeping soundly through the night very soon.

Kritta. Thanks for breaking up all your comments so I look really popular to any outsider looking in. Maybe I should start doing that too.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Yes, there are two awesome stories posted so far. And our button is on Seriously, So Blessed. May we be as her name promises, seriously blessed with much traffic and much interest and many pieces of magic fabric with which to heal the world.

Night everyone!

Oh, night Anjeny. I'm going to go put some ice on my eye.

Congrats Nana! Please dont be the annoying grandma who likes to poke and wake up the sleeping baby, or the nurse who is so adamant about the two hour feedings!

So I have a confession.... While i sit in class, smiling at the teacher, taking notes in my lap top, I have been secretly reasing your past post that i didnt have privy to before!

So lately, its been this guy daniel that sits next to me while we scroll through your blog and read the post with weird titles... and yesterday we almost got caught... we started laughing so hard and forgot where we were, everyone in our pedagogy class looked at us with confused looks ....it was so hard trying to make up something to say without turning red! but thanks for keeping us entertained during class...! I got Danny boy hooked!

I am LoW said...

Aw, thanks for the birthday wish. I hate birthdays. Ever since the big 3-0 they've lost the fun. A day for me, a year older. ugh.

Anyways, okay.... I loved Charlie but I reckon I forgot how Sam ended..... How did it end?

I've had a LDS fiction series in my hear forEVER. Too bad I can't write. :-/

You totally had me going with your title and I was getting very upset reading through the post and WAITING for the pictures of the new grandchild. Very sneaky!

wenderful said...

Gosh, you scared me! I read "grandma" and then "1967", then I did a little mental math and figured we were pretty darn close in age and grandparent-hood looks far far away in my world. So, I was relieved to learn of your daughter's brain child.
Whew! That was a close one. I'll now roll back up in my aging denial. Thanks.

April said...

OMGosh!!! I feel so out of it!!! I have been absent and not even present! I have missed you all and our late night bantering!

I hope your daughter had an epidural! That would just be horrible if she didn't!

And I think that our hubby's should meet in real life Crash and have a cheap skate dual, cause I'm not sure who is the bigger cheap skate. But, I'm pretty sure my hubby would win. (He had to re-tape insulation to use it in our remodel, he won't throw out cereal boxes because he's sure there is a use for them...etc)

I think that Sandi should start her own blog! All in favor say AYE.

I miss Kritta posting 30 comments.

Somebody grab those M&M's from Anjeny and throw one at her!

And the world has NOT come to an end....Kristina made the first comment!!!

AHHHHH!!! That feels better!

Sandi said...

I feel so well rested after my 8:00 bed time. I have to say to all the LDS Lit Lovers- I Did indeed read and LOVE Charlie when I was a teenager, it's just that the thought of having to read it now makes me want to dry heave. I'm sure that ANYTHING Mel J writes would be wonderful, because she says stuff like "major suckage" and I just know that her novel would not have a lovely little YW lesson (complete with handout and refreshments) right smack dab in the middle of her story. Don't get discouraged woman! for heaven sakes, we need some new, good LDS writers out there- carry on!
April, good to see you dearie, are you feeling ok?
I want to see Kritta here so I can tell her that my nephew just got his mission call to Anchorage..woohoo maybe she can feed him or have him help with the quilting or something.
I hope CTGranny got to sleep through the night!

Hey Sandi! I am doing better! Still fighting this dern, yes I said dern, sinus infection. On round 2 of antibiotics.

AND, I am starting a second part-time job so that with both part-time jobs, I will be working full-time....YIKERS!!!

I am going to have serious withdrawls from blogging people!!!

BUT....I will be able to stay at any Marriott for $40! NYC here I come!!!

Sandi said...

April how in the heck do you keep getting these gol-darn jobs? Can I go to NYC with you?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!

First of all, Iwa! No, I'm a sleep through the night like a log kind of grandma.

And Sandi, I did sleep through night. And I even went to bed at 10 pm.

Back to IWA--For shame!! Being distracted in your pedagogy class by the philosophies of a Crash Test Dummy. If I were the teacher I would be so peeved that someone was being distracted in MY class by ME!

Wow! What a weird thought.

But a cool thought too. Go Danny Boy!

Don't tell my boss, I said that. I hate distraction of any kind as a teacher.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Karen, I feel so bad that I deceived you. Did you just come on board? You must know before you make any committments to this blog that I will tease you and trick you and taunt you and smack you around. I probably wouldn't even show sweet photos of my sweet grandchildren (when I have them) without drawing a mustache and funny glasses on them. I'm just not a sweet-girl kinda girl.

LoW, YOU CAN WRITE, GIRL! I want you to go induce that novel from your brain right now. Do you need me to push on your head? Because I will.

April, how dare you work instead of blog? What are we s'pose to do without you?

Can I come to NYC and stay in your Marriott with you and Sandi? Oooh, that would be so much fun!

Personally I thinkt here are too many sweet-girl kind of girls in the world already.

Nutty Hamster Chick said...

First of all what kind of Grandma doesn't force us to look at endless pictures of their grandchild? For shame.

Second of all I will weigh in on the fact that I loved Charly when I was in High School, but I could not way take rereading that kind of pain and loss at this point in my life.

And if you girls do go to NYC you better invite me seeing as how it is one of my unachieved life dreams, but only if we get to see lots of broadway musicals.

Miss you guys. One more day of working and right now I am sitting in the waiting room at the hospital. I will have to write a post about it, perhaps. But for now the initial results showed nothing serious.

I guess I should stop throwing M&M 's and poking the dummy in the eye or I will virtually go home all virtually bruised from head to toe. And I should stop saying I don't like JJ or else, I not only will get virtual bruises but real actual bruises.

April, I second the motion on Sandi starting a blog. Since you know her really well, can you please find out what she likes best so I can bribe her with it to get her started on her blog, pls pretty pls.

Nevada chick...if I answer yes to you, are you going to poke me in the eye? eheheh.

Crash you lucky grandma you, how come you get to sleep like a log? Oh yeah, if you and April had to see who's hubby is a bigger cheap skate...mine will beat you both..ahahahah. My hubby is such a cheap skate, I have to round down on the amount of money I spent to appease his very tight wad heart...LOL...oh but don't tell him that I said that.

Kritta22 said...

Pedagogy (IPA: /ˈpɛdəgɒdʒi/), or paedagogy is the art or science of being a teacher. The term generally refers to strategies of instruction, or a style of instruction.

THere you go!

I wonder if Sandi went to go find his mission papers to see if I get to feed him.

Well I know I won't cuz we have sister missionaries in our ward but maybe friends in the other ward will be able to make him cookies.

You scared me Kritta. I rushed over here to see if my blog was posting without me. That's my biggest fear. That my blog will get a mind of it's own and start saying things without my permission.

Uncensored things. EEEK!

I almost have a new post.

Patience, girls. I don't want to wear you out .

Sandi said...

You girls obviously don't know the extent of my laziness. I could never ever keep up on a blog. Really. And besides, if you were chatting it up on my blog we would be messing with the granny's comments!
Kritta- did you get my fabric yet? As for my nephew, he is going into the MTC the 1st of March, but as soon as he gets there we will find out exactly where he is so you can poke him in the eye for us if he is near you.

Kritta22 said...

No real.

My sidebar said you posted 6 hours ago.

That would be bad if my blog posted by itself. No good.

Are you going to play in Shelle's Hot mama blog?

Sandi said...

Oh my...that means KK should be taking a pedagogy class sometime soon. She will be so impressed when I already know what that is! Thanks Kritta!
LOL @ the granny wearing US out.

I haven't got your fabric yet. It's only 2:36pm and the mail doesn't come until about 4pm.

Kritta!!! I am NOT a granny like Crash is...silly. She is okay, just knocked the bumper off her car. Thank goodness. Maybe between you and me we could get the comments up to 100 before she finishes her next post...?

Kritta22 said...

I was talking about Crash being a granny, not you! I know you aren't!

We can totally get it to 100! You try and keep up! I'm the comment Queen

I'm so glad your daughter is okay! still a bumper off is a big deal. I hope she has insurance.

I have been sitting here blogging, facebooking and hotmailing and not doing my housework.

Im going to be grounded.

Kritta22 said...

I have to leave in 45 minutes and I'm still in my PJ's with no shower, and my living room is a mess.

BUT I would much rather be here with you Sandi. Do you live in Hawaii too?

Kritta22 said...

I get to get a new sewing machine with our tax return!!

It's $2000!!

Oh just think of the beautiful designs I can do on our quilt!

Kritta22 said...

I went and looked at the sewing machine last night at JoAnn's. It's so wonderful!

My hubby is having a hard time spending $2000 on a sewing machine but oh well! I'm going to love it and use the HECK out of it!

Kritta22 said...

Where did you go Sandi?

Are you bored of my sewing machine talk?

Did you know that I have a beagle named Hooch? He is sleeping under the covers on the bed. Such a weird dog.

Kritta22 said...

K I really got hit the showers at 3pm. I hope we make it to 100. I'm sure we will!

Sandi said...

sorry sorry I was slacking of for a second..look at you go! I do not live in Hawaii. I only wish I did. So exciting about your sewing machine! You are not going to make it in 45 min....

Sandi said...

ohhhh surely I can come up with 3 comments on my own! Bye Kritta!

Kritta22 said...

I think people think I'm nuts on here.

I just comment bunches cuz I know when I open my blog and see that I have 20 comments...it's a good day!

Sandi said...

Um. of course now I can't think of anything to say- it's the pressure!

Sandi said...

woohooo we made it!! happy 100 comments to us...oops, I mean Crash Test Granny!

Kritta22 said...

I learned how to comment like this over at momdot. They have lots of live contests. It was fun for awhile BUT it started taking over my life and well, I got a wonderful kid to raise and a hubby that needs some love SOOOO I had to kick it out of my life. Plus chick drama...I hate that.

I like it here where we make quilts and talk about Grannys!

Kritta22 said...

Look at us go Sandi!!!

Anyway I hope you have a great day!

Give yoru daughter a big hug from all of us! We are so glad she is okay!

Off to the shower!

Sandi said...

Kritta- get to the shower~!

Sandi said...

Oh yay! I just noticed that Anjeny's story is up over at the magic quilt site. Off to read it!

Sue said...

Okay, you guys are cracking me up!

I'm glad Sandi's daughter is okay AND I am so jealous of the new sewing machine in Kritta's future! My husband always wants to do dumb stuff like get new tires for the car or pay off bills with our tax returns. You are so lucky.

Sandi said...

Hi Wesley's mom- my daughter actually crashed in your neck of the woods- maybe you could go poke that rear-ender offender (not a word but it rhymed and that was funny)in the eye for me!

I am LoW said...

Awesome news!! All this time, since I realized you visit my blog and you teach writing, I've been working so hard trying to NOT start my sentences that way and it's okay with you that I do?!?!?!

I could cry! :-D

Sue said...

Sandi, where does your daughter live? I live in Mesa, and I actually saw the remains of two different rear-endings today.

Sandi said...

Stapley off ramp

Sue said...

It just so happens that I used that very off ramp today, twice, but I didn't see any accidents there. Mine (the ones I saw) were all on surface streets.(that's fancy city talk for "not on the freeway")

Glad she's okay. There are so many accidents around here.

Well I'm so glad to see you girls get caught up on all the news while I was busy getting my post ready.

Guess what it's titled today?

Crash Test Granny.

Or should I say, he he he?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh, and thanks for taking me the 100 mark. Wahoo! I'm POP-U-Lar!

Sorry, just love to be #113.

Sandi said...

Well I didn't know it was a boy!

Anjeny said...

Sandi and Kritta...I just love the convo you two are having at granny's pad...LOL. I can't wait to see how the conversations going to carry on in Crash's new site.

Kritta, that was a really neat trick you did there. You see how fast the granny runs or should I say type to get her post up? eheheh
