You wanna see an answered prayer? (And a true SPAM story?)

I can't decide if Crash is taking over my personality or if my personality is taking over Crash!

Today I spent three hours in a professional development meeting with 9 of my colleagues and Mormon scholar, Terryl Givens, and all I could think of to say was "hmmmm, that's so cool" and "What an uber awesome idea!"

(Intellectuals really do have uber awesome ideas, I wasn't just saying that to be nice.)

I was trying to keep up with the conversation, really I was.

I was focusing really hard on all the cute vocabulary words like totalizing and secretism and my brain was doing backbends over all the uber awesome concepts like cultural collision and collective revelation.

But honestly, three hours of concentrating made me hungry and it didn't help that the guy sitting next to me was wearing a SPAM tie.

I kid you not! A SPAM TIE, peeps!

AND get this, the guy on the other side of me was wearing a pineapple tie. Seriously! I don't know if food themed ties is a Hawaii thing or an intellectual thing. Probably the latter because, generally speaking, intellectuals tend to be a little dorky like that (in a cute way) (bless their brilliant little hearts).

(Hey, don't hate the messenger! I don't write my material, it writes me. I'm just calling it like the universe sees it.)

But really you can learn a lot from intellectuals. Like did you know that the media suffers from attention spasms? I didn't either, but it makes so much sense. No wonder they're always like Look at me! I'm talking, here! Is this thing on? I swear if you look away again I'll get a charlie horse.

And did you know the biggest problem we made during the war in Iraq was the debathinization of the people? I was so shocked. I just don't get why we would forbid anyone to shower. What a strange strategy. No wonder everybody criticized George Bush so much. You strip people of their personal hygiene and what have they got left?

Anyway, do you guys want to see what my 10-year-old's primary prayer looked like when it was answered? (You must read My Irreverent Super Bowl Sabbath post to fully understand.)

Am I really first...could it be because I'm the only fool up in the middle of the night? Here in Utah anyways! What is it about 3a.m. that makes it hard to sleep?

I'm so glad your son's prayers could be answered - much more important than the stupid lesson that evil primary person was trying to teach him!

Your kids are exceptionally cute Steelers fans!!

I've never actually seen pictures of an answered prayer before...perhaps you should submit them to the Church News.

I was just thinking I could have a whole conversation with myself here in the comment box, but then I (luckily) realized you'd all have to read them (or skip over them) and I'd probably just be embarrassed come the light of day!!

That's what I will look like when Heavenly Father blesses me with the time machine I've asked for.

I agree with Val. You should totally submit those to church news. Or, better yet, make a copy of the pics with some in-your-face message that is vaguely threatening and put it on the door step of your church nemisis. You could even write it in blood. Or is that going too far?

Intellectuals are a zany bunch, aren't they?

I LOVE it! He looks uber happy!

It just kills me to think God doesn't want old quarterbacks and cardinals to win. I thought God liked the underdog.

It looks like your kids had alot of fun.

"You strip people of their personal hygiene and what have they got left?" Body odor.

Those are some absolutely amazing pictures of sports joy! This is an occasion when your camera did not fail you.

WV = creedid Excuse me? What religion are you? May I please see your creed ID?

Is there some connection between Hawaii and Spam? My wife had a co-worker who was going to Hawaii and she got him Spam as a travel gift.

How cute! They are adorable! Love your leather couch, too. (shhh, I wasn't here--it's Tuesday ya know--but somehow I missed this last night so I had to come!)

Those are great pictures! So glad HF is up there listening.

How can I NOT want the Steelers to win after seeing those pics??? THAT WAS JUST MEAN!!!! hehehehe!! You had me at second prayer. I think he secretly prayed for them a second time in his prayer. Any good Steelers fan would.

I feel sorry for her kids....think of all the extra prayers they will have to say! Can you say THERAPY!!!

BTW I think they prefer showers over in Iraq not baths.

April said...

Hey Heidi!!! Who isn't here because it's Tues!!! hehehe!!!

I was going to say that those are the coolest Super Bowl pics ever. But then I decided they aren't because if your kids had put the same energy and enthusiasm behind cheering for MY team, we might have won. Harumph.

I know I personally hate it when people take over my own nation with debathinization. Jerks.

Love the celebration pictures:)

dede said...

save those pictures for when he is asked to give a talk in Primary - and he can spend a good 5 minutes telling everyone how (down to the last minute) his prayers were answered!!!

You should see some of the ties those PHD's wear in my home town. You can certainly see which ones let their wives dress them and which dress themselves. My mother had to make sure everything in the closet matched because u never knew what my father might pull out to wear.

And I love the pictures... They second picture looked like they were dancing.. hee hee

Priceless pics!

Was that a lot of Mormon psychobabble at your 3 hour meeting or what?

I don't know if food themed ties are a Hawaii thing or not, but SPAM and Pineapple certainly are (as I'm sure you well know...). My husband is a Dr. of Music and he commonly wears musical looking ties (which I think are cheesy), he is also Hawaiian. Coincidence? I think not.

Those pictures are SO GREAT. So. Great. It makes me feel better that the Cards lost because your son's prayer was answered AND because he was so happy!

i left a comment on the prayer post i love his reaction what a great answerd prayer now he can rub it in sharing time lady face that his pryer was answerd

Did you just sit there with your camera on your lap waiting...waiting...waiting...and then CLICK, CLICK, CLICK??? I'm totally rubbing off on you aren't I?

I honestly think my blog and your blog and a few others are taking over ME...I find myself saying TAMN it all the time because it sounds SOOOOO funnY!!! :)

I like Alyson's idea of making a copy of the pics but instead of putting it on the doorstep...take it a bit further and post the all over the church with it saying something to the effect of, "This is what it looks like when your public prayers in primary are answered...even if you have to repeat them!!!"

GREAT pictures!
I just want to let everyone in on a secret: Crash will panda kick not only people that mess with her family.. but she'll do it for her blog family too.

Thanks for "watching my back".

How cute! I love how they are almost holding hands in the one picture (I say almost cause we all know boys don't do that girly holding hand thing).

(And I owe you royalties Crash. I stole and used both Tamn and Helk on my blog today. Let me know where they go and I'll slip that quarter in the mail asap ;)

code word today: cholutr - yeah, I don"t know about that one.

The pictures are the best. Looks like they were loving the game, and the outcome!

SPAM? Really? Love it!

Musings of the Mrs. said...

I definitely think its an intellectual thing. I don't think I ever saw a tie the whole time I lived in Hawaii. But DEFINITELY saw aloha shirts with both pinapples and SPAM. I guess I hung with the non-intellectual crowd back then.

Anjeny said...

Cajoh...connection between spam and Hawaii....Hawaii is the capital spam eater in the world. Hawaii is the only state whose McDonald's sell spam for breakfast and also the only state whose 7-Eleven sells spam musubi. People in Hawaii eat spam like people eat potato in Idaho.

Hmmmmm Crash, those pictures are priceless. I'm really glad your son's prayer was answered. Did that Primary lady ever watch "Angels in the Outfield"? The look on your son's face...totaly classic!!

I was thinking Crash, next time you have an meeting like that, you should wear an Haupia Pie skirt or dress...wouldn't that go perfectly delicious with the spam and pineapple ties? LOL

those are INCREDIBLE pictures of the joy of the moment. I'm not a football fan and so even though I was at my in-laws for Superbowl Sunday I hung out by the food because I AM a food fan. hahahaha!!! GO FOOD!!!!

Yay Val for being first! You go, girl! How cute you almost pulled a Kritta at 3 a.m.

Ha ha Lo, Alyson and Stephen. I guess God likes little heart broken boys better than underdogs. hee hee

Soooo funny to see Miss Heidi over here on a Tuesday. ha ha LOVE IT.

Jami, Body Odor! ha ha You kill me.

You guys are all cracking me up, the whole bunch of you. I love reading my comment box. Can't wait until Crash-n-Friends is ready.

I'm so happy to hear that Shelle and Andrea are using Tamn's name in vain on a regular basis, as well as the word h.e. single hockey stick. k.

I love Anjeny's idea that I wear a haupia pie moo moo at my next meeting. ha ha ha Haupia means coconut and here in Hawaii they serve Haupia pie, as well as apple pie, at McDonalds.

I'm with Robin, GO FOOD!!

LY Everyone!

Don't forget to stop by tomorrow. There will be public nudity.

Well I don't even have a blog and the lingo is taking over me as well. I say what the what all the time and Helk has snuck in a few times as well. I think we are going to have to add you to the list of photog's for our blog across American because those are some amazing pics! You can see the tension...the hope...they ecstasy. I think you should totally volunteer to do a sharing time presentation...you know about how prayers are answered?!

And don't forget the Saimin you can get at McDonalds too!

GREAT pictures!!
My brother bought a Spam tie a few years ago - he likes to show it off on all holidays... but I think my Mom made him leave it home from the mission... at least I HOPE she did :)

Val, yea for you congrats. Thanks for stopping by my place. How's the ankle and all the snow, I feel for you, my sister is going through the same thing.

OK those were the bestest pictures ever. Although they pale in comparison of the happy face/dance I do when my cougars come from behind to win. But it is just one of the good things in life, when the team you want to win, actually does. I love it when that happens.

Can't wait for the public nudity.

LY Crash

PUBLIC NUDITY TOMORROW? don't tell me you have pictures of my BIL's butt??? he's ALWAYS flashing that skinny white thing around as if we all wanted to see it. Please spare your bloggers the pain and suffering and burn those pics now!!!! I for one still have PTSD from the many times he flashed a moon during the dating months with my husband and early years of our marriage. My eyes!!! My eyes!!!

Isn't blogging funny? How you're constantly reminded of things from blogs of people you don't even know in real life, but it seams like you do (know them)? So tonight I thought of you when Barry Manilow was on AI, and I thought he so looked much better than last year when he was on and looked so freakin' scary. I think the swelling has finally subsided a bit :)

I was rooting for the underdog on principle, but now I'm so glad they didn't win, because I would have hated support what would obviously have been a crushing blow to your child and his faith. LOVED the pics. Totally priceless.

P.S. I've missed you in my crazy work-a-lot life. You crack me up.

Anjeny said...

Crash, do you know that it's hard for dark skinned people to blush? But I can seriously feel my face burning from all these attention you're giving me.

Can't I just sit in the very back of the submarine van and giggle at you without anyone noticing me? LOL. I feel so unworthy of such an honor...feeling giddy yet shy at the same time.

You are so sweet and thank you. That was nice of you to send people over my way, I got a follower out of the deal...I love it. Muuaaaah!!

Val-of the south- You could have pulled a Kritta!

It's really fun talking to your self in Crash's inbox. You just come back the next morning and read what everyone else said!! :)

I'm a big fan of everyone's icons. I think I need to change mine up.

Kritta22 said...

My icon is actually one of the first pictures I took with my new camera. I wanted to take pictures of the Fall leaves. I got what I wanted, all the while, Connor played with his truck in the back of my truck! Love it!

Kritta22 said...

I don't know if I've ever had Spam before. Is that like not America of me?

Kritta22 said...

I've been a bad blogger lately. We've had so stuff go on at our house. I'm back through. This is where I vent.

Kritta22 said...

I love that anything goes over at Crash's house. Jumping on the couches, carrying buckets, all good things!

Kritta22 said...

Did you know that TAMN has a Stepping stones button on her blog? Love it!

Kritta22 said...

Crash, you can't make fun of the nerds cuz I'm pretty sure you are a genius too!

What tie would you wear if you were a dude?

Kritta22 said...

I was gonna quit at 50 but the WV is BLESSESS!!

Crash you blessess us!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Wow Kritta! I love it when you talk to yourself in my comment box.

No one has ever asked me what tie I would wear before if I were a dude.

You kinda stumped me. I think I would wear a Kung Fu Panda tie.

But if it had to have food on it, I would wear a Code Red Moutain Dew tie.

And no one has ever called me a nerd before. They just call me a dummy and say, "Why did we hire you, again?"

Eliza said...

Love the pics. You should scrapbook them and give them to the big mean lady that made your son cry.

Mariko said...

Is it cold in there or something?
Everyone asked me who I was rooting for. On principle, I don't like football. (are we scandalized now?) Unless it's in another country, of course, as soccer.
But I did say the Steelers, for you. I told them I was only sucking up to you.
