Absent, yet present

Guess who I'm in love with now.

John Adams.

He's not as sexy as Hamlet when he's losing his mind, but the guy knows how to turn a phrase and I'm a sucker for a well turned phrase.

When it's authentic.

Seriously, his letters are intoxicating.

His wife's letters are intoxicating too. I just want to give her a high five and a you go, girl every time I read them.

Sometimes, when I'm up late at night reading her letters, I like to picture her sitting at her kitchen table in the bitter cold early New England mornings dipping her quill into her ink and wringing her heart onto the page, completely oblivious of me, a silly dummy over 130 years her junior, looking over her shoulder and hanging on her every word.

Isn't it such a weird thought?

She's absent yet present, as Emily Dickensen would say.

We are all absent, yet present.

Yet most of the time we're present, yet absent.

It's like some crazy time travel trick that you just can't wrap your mind around.

Alls I know is Abigail Adams would have made a great blogger. I wish she could join us in our yellow submarine across the country. I would love to drive across America with her and see what she thinks of the country she fought so hard to create!

LY, Abigail!

And hey everyone, Youngblood4ever needs a huge hug! (and a silent prayer). I'll meet you in her comment box.

LY Youngblood!

Ohmyword, you are right, can you imagine some of the greatest writers past.... blogging??

How cool would that be?!?!

So true about the present, yet absent!

The crazy time travel trick for me happens when I look at old photographs!

Present, yet absent has been my state of being for at least the past 4 years...

I think it'd be cool to get Mark Twain in on the blogging, too. Or Eliza R. Snow.

Kind of reminds me of the phrase "the lights are on— but nobody's home".

Perhaps you could contact your local spirit guide and have her do a guest post.

I read a biography of both the Adams women that blew me away. They both endured a whole heck of a lot. Amazing women!

I'm afraid Abiligail Adams would groan a lot during our BAA... (political comments removed by author) but I would totally be stalking her blog!

I'm present and absent during every conference call at work and whenever my husband is talking to me during a favorite TV show.

If we get to read blogs from people in history, can we pick fictional characters too? I'd really like to get into the mind of Mary Bennett from P&P. She's quite odd and I have no clue what she's thinking. I'd probably stalk her only. I'd be slightly afraid to comment.

Crash, I think it is really nice of you to post at different times giving different people a chance to be first. Obviously Krisina sleeps at night.

Absent but absent is a great description for me. Especially for the past six months. But even before that.

Who are you crazy people? Up at 2:28? I'm devoted to blogging, but not that much.

Hugs for Youngblood!

Crash, you are my hero! Thanks for the bloglove.

Have you seen the movie John Adams? Just wondering if it is good. I know the books are always better, but my neverending list of to-read books is continually growing and it is going to take some time to get to it.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Youngblood, the movie is NOT EVEN close to the book if you ask me. I love the book. I don't love the movie. All 20 hours or so of it. It doesn't capture his beautiful prose. He's also very UNSEXY with his frizzy hair and ew yuck-o teeth. (At least that's what my daughter says.)

Keep all that in mind Barbaloot. You won't fall in love with him in the movie. They should have cast Mel Gibson as John Adams. Then I would love the movie. hee hee

Hi everyone! I TOTALLY agree. It would be awesome to think of following blogs by our favorite authors. Maybe we should plagiarize. What do you think? Or like CaJoh said, contact a local spirit guide. Kinda like a ghost writer . . . hee hee You guys I just got some great ideas!!!

So sad I have to be present in my life.

Oh, wait, I'm not present in my life.

But so sad I have to TRY to be present in my life. I would love to be a ghost writer/whisperer.

dropping by to tell you that KK said you did a great job at fireside last night! Now I'm going to spend the day thinking about which authors I would blog stalk......

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh Sandi, I could hardly believe my eyes when KK walked into the fireside. Talk about REAL pressure, as oppossed to VIRTUAL pressure. Real pressure is much more . . . real!

Did she send you my LY?

Could we have a translator to translate all of our "guest spiritual bloggers" into modern english? I can hardly keep up here....you know, being kicked out of BYU and all.

I think Kristina P needs a picture of her wearing her snuggie WHILE using a sham wow.

Just sayin.

Even is randomly. :-)

Even IF. IF. IF.

I declare. I cant' get it right when I am speaking and I can't when typing.

Barbaloot said...

I think I would like it if Jonathan Snider (Bo Duke) played John Adams. Then I would fall in love with him:)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Do you guys want to know who I find the most attractive fascinating actor, and who, for some odd reason, and you're going to think I'm odd, really compels me?

Adrien Brody.

I just love looking at him for some odd reason.

Am I odd?

Barbaloot said...

Crash! That's crazy. Ever since I saw King Kong (which, if you haven't seen it-don't) I've been strangely attracted to Adrien Brody.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

I knew it Barb. When you said you like boys with dark curly hair I had an inkling we were two peas in a pod. Did you see The Pianist? I loved him in that.

Barbaloot said...

No-I haven't ever seen that. Maybe I'll have to go check it out sometime...

Sandi said...

Well you did say you were fascinated with him, not madly in love with him, so I guess I can see that. He is an odd looking guy! The one I love lately is Gerard Butler...ohh la la! oh wait I was supposed to be thinking about great writers, not smokin hot men.
and YES Crash, KK sent the LY...Thanks:)

I am totally present. You dont know who I am but I definetly present. I dont love John Adams (abligail rocks though) and I do love you crash. you keep me laughing and thinking all the time.

Maybe I am the topless mermaid who made your boys stare.

Am I driving you crazy yet? MUhahaha

I am LoW said...

Crash- your comment love in my comment box was heeeelARious! You crack me up.

Did you see PW had a giveaway, you just had to tell a blog that didn't make the bloggies, I said YOU.

(kissin' up to the crash, ya'll)

:-)

My attractive fascinating actor is Tim Roth, Ed Norton, Mel!!! to say a few....

I haven't seen Adrien Brody in anything. I need to see him in something (other than the Hollywood gossip mags and shows) and I might get a Hollywood crush. ;-)

WV- fifinc- your word verifier is stutterint too!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

OH LO, you are the best kiss up ever. I love kissing up, especially when the PW is involved! Wahooo! What if she comes here and decides to join our blog-across-America tour? We'd have to tell her that photog roll is already filled, and of course, I'll be lead blog lady, but she can home school us as we drive so we don't get dumb through the boring states. Oh, and maybe we could get her to tell us how far she and MM reallllllly went on their first date.

and YES, Diary lady YOU are freaking me out. WHO are you Diary lady? And what do you want from me? I hope you're not the topless mermaid becasue she makes me uncomfortable and self conscious about my own addiction to clothing.

April said...

Are you present yet Crash? Or still feeling a little absent? I could start start typing everything in your comment box twice...bless your heart!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh April, you're right. Everyone is absent. Where is everyone? I feel absent too. And yet I'm still present.

At least you're hear April. And you've almost subliminally brainwashed me to root for the cards.

Weird.
