Swirl's a Super Star!

I was in the middle of my Australia post, when I got an email from my friend and neighbor, Swirl.

I was going to share the lurve with Swirl sometime this week anyway, so I'm going to skip ahead because she was nominated and chosen by Family Fun magazine as the February Mom of the Month, and her blurb came out today.

OMGOSH! Swirl's a Super Star!!!!!!

Click on this link for the proof! Could she look any more adorable?

Even though I'm not crafty or swirly and I oppose stampin' it up due to my stampin' handicap, Swirl and I have the most important things in common. We both want our boys to love reading. We both have the same favorite Tai food restaurant (Haliewa Eats) and the same favorite boys author (DAN GUTMAN ROCKS). And we both LOVE John Adams. Swirl has done some über impressive research on him, actually.

(Nevandanista, did you see that? Your code worked over the u. YAY.)

Above all, we both have a dream.

A year ago we were driving home together in the rain from a movie. We didn't know each other very well at the time. My boys were in her book club 4 boys and she had asked me to accompany them to the book club movie. On the way home we started talking about our dreams. She had a bookclub4boys.com website that she wanted to jumpstart. I wanted to be a freelance writer and start writing magazine articles.

Now we're both blogging our brains out! Go figure.

But we've been supporting each other every step of the way and Swirl's link just went NATIONAL!

WOOHOO! I'm so proud of you, Swirl.

Can everyone go check out Swirl's website and give her a virtual pat on the back!

And while you're at it, give Martha my next door neighbor some lurve too. She's sad today because sometimes domestic bliss isn't as blissful as it's cracked up to be. We all know how that is! But she's Da Bomb! She buys me clothes on-line and plans all the neighborhood parties and coaches my kid's tennis and basketball teams and tells embarrassing things about me in my comment box.

Lurve you Martha and Swirl!

(Oh, I promised I wasn't going to say that word anymore, huh?)

Swirl and I just met about a month ago, and it was love at first click.

I gazed at her across the blogosphere, and she gazed right back, and it was true bloggy love.

And I don't want to make anyone jealous but she did invite me to her next Stampin' Up party if I invite her to my next cookie exchange. You know, the one where I ban chocolate cookies. Don't cry, Crash.

WOW!!! I am surrounded by awesomeness!!! I was fortunate to have great readers (except for the hubby-do they have book clubs for them?). You are soooo lucky to have awesome neighbors!!! I envy!

Wow! A star in our midst!

I'm so happy to meet you, Swirl. I'll have to drop by your boys reading site. I could use some fun ideas.

I also love my PC Pizza Cutter. I fall short in the peanut butter department though. Skippy--mmmmm!

Aloha everyone!

NHC, oh mylanta? I love that!

T, I have to pay my boys to review a stinkin' book on our book blog too. And I have to pay them to read one too. That's why they have no money.

Lo, there's a woman who's in Benjamin Button who looks exactly like you. She's only in it for 20 seconds, but I feel like you're a star too.

Kristina P! Shame on you both of you for having parties behind my back. I invite you guys to every single party I have. And my chocolate chip cookies are YUM-O, so there!

April, I LOVE your bookclub for hubby's idea. Swirl, what do you think? So funny!

Swirl, you totally scared me and made me think I wrote about your burp. And then I thought I wrote about your blurp. But it's BLURB, girlfriend. I don't think you have to clean your house or iron clothes while you're basking in the afterglow of fame and fortune and everything that goes with it.

It was Riordan's Lightning Thief series that finally sucked my boy in. I was beginning to despair of hearing it, but the night he asked if he could stay up late to finish a chapter was just about one of the happiest of my life.

Congratualtions to Swirl!

And um, don't I rock because I like John Adams too? (Granted, I watched the mini-series instead of reading the book but I read Truman, which is longer, and that should count for something, right?).

Swirl looks so uber cute/pretty/relaxed/fun-mommish in that picture! So lovely!

Oh, and Swirl, please find a way for my 9 year old boy to fall in love with reading! Please, please, please! All he'll read is Pokemon books and says all other books suck. Quite a declaration for someone who's read so little.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Melanie, you can be in our John Adams club too. And my daughter loved the Lightening Thief. The happiest night of my life was when my son wouldn't go out to play because he was finished his first book. It only happened once though.

Alyson, Anything DAN GUTMAN! He is so good. Weird School series is my favorite. He's so funny. But it's for 2nd-3rd graders. His Baseball series are great! And his Million Dollar series is good too. He's just GOOOOOOD!

Now I must see Benjamin Button! :-)

I was named after a character in a movie that was on screen for about 20 seconds.

But there must be something about me and teeny tiny parts in movies. :-D

Oh, and I never encouraged my boys to read. As a matter of fact, I even insisted that they NOT read, because knowledge is power and there is just nothing good they could do with any power.

I kid, I kid!! :-)

My oldest was the hardest to get into reading, but it seems to take just one good book (the mystery is WHICH one good book?)that gets them. For him it was Where the Red Fern Grows.

And that was it. Then I was begging him to please stop pulling book all nighters.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Okay, Lo, the girl is near the end when Benjamin sells his house. She's the one (with her husband) buying the house.

My son has enjoyed 3 or 4 books, including HATCHET, but it never makes him read into the night. sniff. I can't wait for that moment.

I hope all this fame won't go to Swirl's head. Will she still play with us?

No worries about my domestic bliss because the semester is starting soon. Then he will go back to work and stop trying to run the house and I'll be happy again.

I did get P out to play tennis with Swirl and her hubby. Swirl and I were partners and were making a great comeback when those losers quit on us. So we tied 4-4. Their excuse was that Swirl's baby kept running in the court. You know I would never quit at 4-4. What kind of a match is that?
I nailed it right at Swirl's hubby - it was really fun to watch that big hulking dude cower. I would never do that to you however.

WHEW Low!!! I thought the person that Crash was referring to in Benjamin Button that reminded her of you was the person who raised the flag one morning. Oh wait, that was a guy and he was nekked. Never mind! (Rereading post....Ok, Crash did say "woman"....I'm the dummy!) I'm still all a-flustered from the movie....sorry!

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

Good one April! That had to be my favorite part of the movie...It also reminded me that I'm one day closer to raising a flag nekked...so sad :(

Swirl...I am so happy for your Famous-ness...I feel somewhat famous because I know you through BLOG blood and Twin Crash...which makes ME practically famous also!

You do SOUND like a Super Mom...I need lessons...if we come over there will you let us learn from you?

Just wondering

Sorry I missed the Surprise Party...thankfully I got my surprise comment in early for TAMN!!!

Love ya crash!

My second son (the one that was a big reader by 2nd grade) LOVED Hatchet, he tried to get me to read it. I still need to.
