Four Score and Forty Two days ago . . .

Today is a VID--a very important day. It's also a VED--a very emotional day.

Yes! January 20th! Not a day to be sharing TMI about kissing.

Why not?

Because four score and 42 days ago I rescued my ILs in a rainstorm.

You know what that means, don't you?

That means that today they are leaving on a jet plane to fly away somewhere over the rainbow. (I better add that song to the BAA playlist.)

Oh and btw, did you know the first black man became president of the United States today?

Whether you're a demlican or a republicrat, how can you resist the urge to wave your hands in the air, like you just don't care?

Do you want to know what I was thinking during the inauguration?

1. OMGOSH, did Juan Williams seriously just bring a lump to my throat? (that is one authentic dude.)

2. OMGOSH, Obama is a lefty? No wonder.

3. OMGOSH, is Cindy McCain seriuosly texing on camera? With one hand?

4. OMGOSH, is that Abraham Lincoln muppet freak dancing?

5. OMGOSH, is Ted Kennedy having a seizure?

6. OMGOSH, is Michelle Obama's dress made out of a heating pad because she looks so HOT. And she doesn't even look cold!

7. OMGOSH all you millions of freezing people, I totally saw the first black president come out of this bathroom at Turtlebay! Nani Nani boo boo!

8. OMGOSH, how many more hours until my ILs leave on a jet plane?

(I kid. I didn't think that until hours after the inauguration.)

But mostly I thought about Jackie Robinson. Anyone who's been reading me for a while knows I'm in love with him.

And this is why.

He would have loved to be in Washington D.C. today, bless his heart.

And that led me to the realization that I never showed you what I spent $100 on to put under the tree for my son.

Do you still want to see it?

Okay, I'll show you tomorrow. I don't have time tonight.

And don't forget that at the stroke of midnight this VID/VED will be over and we can go back to sharing TMI about kissing.

Here's how Jen lost her membership status in the Ricks College Virgin Lips club, Part I.

And here's the proof that Youngblood4ever wasn't a prude or a lip hussy.

P.S. Can you guess who's feet these are?

And they're not mine.

Nothing about the guy doing the invocation that made me press my mute button? I may have been a little scared.

You know what would have made Michelle Obama even hotter? A Snuggie. Hotter in so many ways.

TisforTonya said...

a Snuggie for Michelle... I think actually the secret service might be hunting down Kristina P. as we speak...

Really guys - never heard of her...

I hope you don't mind if I leave your page open for long periods of time - I'm not stalking, just diggin' the road trip tunes! And I'm way to lazy to make my own playlist!

My son just asked me "what does that yellow submarine song mean anyways?"

Funny Farmer said...

Whoever's feet those are, they have a long second toe like mine! hahahaha

I can't wear crocs 'cuz of that silly toe. Not that I mind not being able to wear possibly the ugliest footwear since Old Navy boat shoes. I'm just sayin'.

And now I'm off to clogging class to get my butt busted!

TisforTonya said...

seriously though - why two right shoes... isn't it supposed to be two left feet?

TisforTonya said...

do those two feet belong to the same person?

WF says quess... which is close enough to guess right :)

Alyson | New England Living said...

I was like a weeping willow today. Couldn't help be all teary-eyed. Tell me I'm not the only one!

And, holy heck, did he really use the term "red man" in the closing prayer?! I've never heard so many chuckles during a prayer in my life!

What did you get your son??

Those feet belong to Swirl. Takin' a stab.

Alyson | New England Living said...

I'm glad my husband wasn't home because, really, I was doing the really ugly cry when Obama was sworn in and when he was speeching (yeah, I made that word up).

Melanie Jacobson said...

I'm watching JJ at one of the inaugural balls and it made me feel that my head would explode because...remember what I siad about people being out of context? Well, here's JJ and Barack Obama Barack-ing the party in the same place somewhere besides your blog. Weird!

lori said...

I have no idea whose feet those are, but they are wearing two right shoes. Are the "shoesing" the right? Okay, so that was really bad, but you did say I could be trouble. ( we all need to groan at a bad joke once in a while)

deb@virginia blue said...

holy cow, batman!
being a newbie to this blog = tons of catching up to do!!!!...

TOTALLY WORTH IT, though!!!

lori said...

they, i meant are they etc, etc...I can't even do a bad joke correctly.

TisforTonya said...

ummm... the Verifier is taking a stab at it "untshus"... your aunt's feet?

Your MIL's feet - leaving on a jet plane... in her two right shoes?

yeah, I give up.

But it does remind me - my SIL's and I once played a game where all of our hubbies lined up behind a blanket with just their feet on display... Did I pick my own guys' feet? Well, yes, but only because his pant leg slipped and I recognized the pants - before that I was sure that BIL's feet were his... didn't know the family foot familiarity was so strong

Barbaloot said...

Are they JJ's feet?

nevadanista said...

I think they're Martha's feet, and she uses two of the same foot to trip people in races. I'm pretty sure they're not you MIL's - I saw her in those Old Navy shoes

Oh, it just makes me happy to see my name like that! Thanks again :)

nevadanista said...

Wait! Is that Krisina P. wearing a snuggie in her profile pic? Awesome :) And is she on a stairmaster with it?

Kritta22 said...

Yeah Kristina P's picture changed!! Life as we know it has ceased to exist.

I'm with alyson...it's a sad day.

I don't even think of him as the first black president...I just see him as a crappy president. Sorry to those that love him. I'm not a fan.

Going to click on Kristina's picture to see what she is doing.

PS I'm not closing the comment box tonight...my kid wore me out today!

Kritta22 said...

PSS Is it Latin boy's feet?

I didn't watch the inaguration. I think that makes me unAmerican or something like that. It's not that I didn't want to but it was novel writing day. I don't even read blogs on novel writing day, for pete sakes! (P.S. we are neck in neck on our number of blog followers and have been for quite some time. It's almost as if, when one of us pulls ahead, the other pays someone to follow so that nobody gets too far ahead of the other. I'm not accusing you or anything . . .yet, I can't afford such tomfoolery whereas you can afford to send a hymnbook to the world when all they are going to do is lose it, anyway, just like my mom. Just saying . . .if the shoe fits, wear it. Or, even if it doesn't.) ;)

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

There your SONS feet!!! I think. I watch a tid bit of the Inauguration...and it sounded like a preacher on a stand...but maybe that's a good thing!

OH MY GAD bye bye IL's...we will miss the great posts about you guys! Especially the naked ones and the BYBO ones!

hahaha Nevadaista comment about Martha's TRIPPING feet! lol!

And Debilyn is WAY pretty...so I don't know about her...I'm jealous enough...all right all right...she can be the PRETTY friend! :)

Word Verifier says, BUTZI...hahaha like Butt See I? Or another endearing name to call your BUTT...like, "She has a cute butzi!!!"

Shelle-BlokThoughts said...

Watch for my First Kiss post...it's a commin!!!

Anjeny said...

LOL...that is so funny. You were not joking when you said you were posting about those feet.

I thought it was kinda funny that she got all dressed up, even remembered to take her camera to the beach but then showed up with two right side shiplike size shoes.

I only saw the ending of the inauguration today. Enough said.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh my goodness, Kristina P changed her profile pic. And shelle did too. Shelle, you look beautiful. Kristina, you look . . . like . . . uh . . . ummm . . . a big blue snuggly guitar hero monument.

Val, how cute your son is being exposed to the Yellow Submarine. Thank you for your email. I'll write you back tomorrow. I just finished my night class and I have MUCHOS grading for my early morning class tomorrow. AND for some odd reason I feel incredibly spent now that my ILs are gone. I feel like I need to go on a diet or something. And IL diet maybe.

Funny Farmer, if you second toe is longer than your first toe, it's supposed to mean you're a gifted dancer. Did you know that? I lie not.

Alyson you're so goooooood. I will announce who those freaky feet belong to tomorrow AND show what I got my son.

Melanie, I totally see what you mean. BOOM! Is that where JJ is? I was wondering why he wasn't at the soccer game on Saturday.

Hee hee, Lori, I actually LOVE that joke. Shoesing the right! ha hah ahah Good one.

Debilyn, OMGOSH, that's my name too. Except a few more letters and spaces. You are pretty. And I KNOW! It's almost too late to be new to this blog. Good luck catching up. It is worth it for the friends. Crash-n-friends ROCKS! Especailly on Road trips across America.

If anyone else wants to be new, better do it now!!!

See what I mean about Nevada. Nothing gets by her.

Ha ha Shelle. I love your new profile pic. And I'm going to post one last IL tribute/poke in the eye tomorrow. It will be sad to miss all that great material they provide.

Night Night Kritta. Get some sleep!

Miss Heidi!! I'm shocked to see you here on a Tuesday night! Wow! Did you get your chapter done? I hope so. Did you hear April LOVED Miss D? YAY!

Hey, where's April? And Sandi? And Robin? And NHC?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

And Anjeny!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Anjeny, you KNOW who's feet they are. I let it slide the first time, but when I saw here wearing those two right feet again I just HAD to publically humiliate her.

LBBlum said...

I don't know who you are talking about..
but those feet are so dang adorable!
Whoever that person is I'm sure they are awsome! In fact.. I can tell just by those pudgy toes.. I wish I were more like him/her.

So confident to just rush out the door in whatever shoes lay beside the door...

btw crash- you are busted... I promised pictures of you in your bathroom.. and after this... you know I'm gonna deliver!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Swirl, I'll let you take pictures of my feet in the bathroom.

You so gave yourself away!

It was a kick butt awesome day wasn't it? I was so happy we got to watch it here. Of course seeing the American flags waving made my cry my eyes out and desperately miss home, sniff.

Only one more year and 6 weeks and then I too, will return to living in the land of the free (with luck anyway!)

Awesome day.

Wahoo on the IL's! I salute you for surviving!

T that sounds like a heelarious game to play. Except I have 6 BILs, yes just like seven brides for seven brothers. So maybe we will try that at the next family reunion.

Kristina, I love your new picture. I didn't see it on my blog becuase I was cheating and reading the comments from email. But glad you are imatiting cookie monster. Be sure to eat lost of cookies whilst you work that eliptical. Mulitask, right?

Jen I am headed over to your blog now. Thanks for not making me stay up until 2 am to read it.

Nutty Hamster Chick said...

Dang now I can't spell once. What the helk. I must really be tired.

Colleen said...

I'm SO glad you all stopped by the inauguration. I was thinking about crashing your road trip but it didn't sound like you would be making that stop, and I HAD to be there because I was asked to assist the deputy, deputy speech writer. Being the humor police, I had to make sure there was no subtle humor to distract from this momentous occasion--okay someone snuck some into the benediction when I was turning the pages for the pianist--it was just so exquisitely beautiful that I let my guard down.

I keep thinking I can GET every subtle nuance and inference but then I get distracted reading Derrida, and I deconstruct.

And, I went on your last spectacular cross country road trip. Thank you so much for that great pleasure. It would be piggy of me to take up the space.

Good thing my lurve has no need to preempt grievance.

Alyson | New England Living said...

Kritta - You got me wrong! I wasn't crying because it was a sad day. I thought it was amazing and touching and emotional. I guess I should have explained myself!

sara said...

Those are a lot more thoughts than I had about the whole thing. Mostly I focused on that fabulous outfit Michelle had on.

Alyson | New England Living said...

Ok, Crash, plese tell me you got the fact that I was crying because I was touched by yesterday's events! I'm hoping people don't think I'm playa-hatin' on Obama.

Cajoh said...

I can't believe— being the south-paw that I am— switching the channels trying to see Obama signing the book with his left hand to assure myself that he is left-handed.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

CaJoh, ME TOO! I had to hold a mirror up to the TV to make double sure. Does everyone but me know he's a lefty? Colleen, did you know? It was impossible to tell when he was coming out of the bathroom. He tucks his shirt in with his right hand.

Alyson, I TOTALLY GOT YOU, girlfriend. I know your daughter is best friend's with Obama. Plus, I know you love historial moments as much as I do and you tear up easily. I mostly get chicken skin, but I totally teared up when Juan Williams choked up.

Colleen, look at you paying attention in class and doing your deconstruction homework. There is plenty of room in the yellow submarine, girl. It might not be as fun as our REAL trip across the country, but virtual reality is less expensive. I SO hope we make another real trip this year. Then we can BLOG our brains out about it. Maybe I'll post my photo of you with Obama in D.C. today. Remember that? Did you know Ask Liz was there at the inaugural? And thank goodness your lurver preempts your grievences! Mahalo!

The Crash Test Dummy said...

I mean grievances?

Hey, WHAT grievances?

The Crash Test Dummy said...

I didn't mean to say grievances with a question mark.

At least not the first time.

I am LoW said...

I knew he was a leftie. So is Bush. So is the majority of passed Presidents. So is McCain.

Must mean something, eh?

I am LoW said...

Past.

Not passed.

Oy.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

OMGOSH! Are you serious? Where have I been?

One of my twins is a lefty. Maybe there's hope for him, afterall.

Martha said...

I have seen those slippers (shoes for you mainland dudes) on the porch of somebodies house....can't think who. They look like they belong to a hockey player/finance guy. So I'm guessing they belong to the wife of that hockey/finance guy.

I am going miss those In laws. Who will watch my bball practices? Who will I talk to at the games? Who will tell me how wonderful our team is or how great their grandkids are?

Anjeny said...

You mean she went back to the beach after that last time with those same ships again? LOL

You two are starting to sound really scary to come around. Who knows what kind of {embarrassing} pictures of OTHERS, I might add, would end up on your blogs.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

hee hee, Lo. I thought you meant all the presidents that passed the presidential exam were lefty's. But then that would make Bush a Righty so . . .

hee hee J/K everyone. Don't throw tomatoes at me. You know I don't talk religion or politics.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh Martha, you just made me feel horrible. I was already low and that just put me over the edge.

THANKS A LOT!

Anjeny, I know! I'm terrified of Swirl, actually. She has no photo shame. (And just between me and you, I think she's out to get me.)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Hey, where's April and Sandi?

Anjeny said...

Yeah Martha, I think in the not sooo distant future, Crash just might go into some IL withdrawal sympthom or something. You watch.

She might even blog about a rerun of the butterfly post just to make an analogy to the IL. LOL

Oh yeah, that hockey/finance guy need to keep better tabs of his shoes, to avoid the shoes wandering onto other parts of the blogging world..ahahah.

Anjeny said...

LOL Crash. As long as you don't wear two right sided way too big sized shoes like that photo, you're safe..no?

You know, I noticed her camera had become a part of her daily outfit now. Sheesh, she will go all the way to town with Heath in just diapers but that camera is glued onto her hips...totally unbelievable.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

LOL Anjeny! You totally called it. I'm just writing my withdrawl post right now. (Except now I can't re-run that butterfly post. THANKS for spoiling the surprise!)

Alyson | New England Living said...

OMG! My daughter, Caroline, is a lefty. Maybe that's why she's bff's with Obama!

By the way, Crash, your lefty and no wonder line totally cracked me up! hehehe

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh and Colleen, I didn't mean to say lurver either. Just wanted you to know I wasn't talking about Paul.

Hee hee

Alyson, HIGH FIVE. I'm glad somebody liked it.

Interesting about the left handed coincidences. hmmm. Kinda wishing I wasn't so ambidextrous.

J/K. I mean kinda wishing I wasn't a righty.

April said...

I'm here. Thanks for asking. Had a rough day yesterday. Sorry! Then had to catch up on the comments.

But I do think that NHC has a point Crash....did you win the immunity idol during your IL/survivor season? Or did you just send them to exile island? Inquiring minds want to know.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

I won the immunity idol. PHEW! And then I sent them to exile island. hee hee

I'm posting about it today.

Oh, and I found you over at my bro's blog. hee hee

I tracked you down. I'm sorry you had a rough day yesterday. 10 more day or so of quarantine, right?

SIGH! Robin sound miserable too.

Cyber hugs.

Crash- you just gave yourself away!!! :-O haha

I am as excited about Obama being the first black Pres as I would be if the Catholic church got their first black Pope- "good for him, but that's not my par-tay".

I come from a multi-racial family....

http://galow.vox.com/library/photo/6a00d4144f9d673c7f00e398ef21380005.html

so him being black didn't intrigue me. I know he CAN, but it doesn't mean he SHOULD (unless he changed his views on a few things, lol)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Hee hee Lo, NO I DIDN'T. I'm still ambidextrous and ambiguous and ambivalent. Check again. hee hee

I hate Partays. (Unless I can be a rock star and inhale whipped cream and get a shake tatoo.)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

hee hee I don't want a shake tatoo, (as in vanilla, chocolate or strawberry). I want a shaka tatoo.

I tried to follow your link, Lo, but it didn't work.

So you're from GEORGIA? Deep south? How is everyone feeling down south about the first black president?

I was wondering who my Georgia fans were. You know I get more hits from Georgia than almost anywhere. I shoulda been born in Georgia.

Alls I will say is I Love JACKIE ROBINSON. I love THE INCREDIBLES, and I hate homogeny!

I also love enigmas.

Hey, where's Jami?

I think the deep south has as many differing opinions as any other area.

Oh, and all the Georgia hits is b/c I have your link on my blog, remember? It's totally ME sending ALL MY PEEPS to your blog.

I have quite the entourage. :-D

They just.... never... comment. ha

Wait! WHAT? All those Georgia hits are your peeps? Like Dar? And Mom? And what about Gary? Does Gary read me too? huh? huh? huh? And hows about Zoe? Please tell me Zoe? Hi Georgia fans! LY! Especially Mom because I totally agree that Lo SHOULD have kissed Gael when she had the chance.

Good thing for second chances. (oops hope Gary didn't read that.)

And Gary online? HAHAHA!!! He can't even figure out email! (don't tell him I said that)

But probably everyone in my ward too! :-D

Oh, I am suppose to be leaving you alone....

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Oh it worked. You have the cutest bi-racial family ever. And I especially love the big old Southern Georgia front porch. I aways wanted to sit on a porch like that and rock the night away.

We each have our thoughts on yesterday...so I'll leave mine out. Glad it was a good day for you. Although, I was not a fan of the dress. It looked too "promish" to me. I'm just saying.

No idea on the feet. At least whoever it is must be a good dancer (not 2 left feet). Okay, that was a bad joke, I know.

I am LoW said...

I am FINALLY here when you are on and you keep shooing me!

:-P~~

Alyson | New England Living said...

Low - It doesn't intrigue you? The first black president? No matter your views, I think it's monumental. It's amazing. I think it will give african-americans a sense of achievement that will be good for our whole country. Hopefully, Obama will do good, but even if he doesn't, I still think yesterday was AMAZING.

Now let's work on getting a woman in office! :)

I am LoW said...

Let it be known that those of us who didn't vote for Pres Obama is sad that we couldn't say we did, with it being all historical and stuff. We know it was uncool.

(not that everyone voted for him to be cool)

And I hope he is all everyone who voted for him dreams he is. Seriously.

And may God bless America!

:-D

Alyson | New England Living said...

Lo - hehehe! Yeah, my husband's uncool like that too (but don't tell him I said so). ;)

I am LoW said...

No, not really. And I won't really feel the same when it's a woman.

It's history. But it's not really amazing. I am not amazed.

Would you feel the same if it were Al Sharpton voted in? (they really don't compare, but to make the point?)

It matters to me that it's the right person.

I am LoW said...

Alyson- seriously, my husband tried to email me the other day, in front of me, he puts my email addy where it belongs, and his address in the cc. haha! Bless his heart!!

But hey, I don't have to share the computer with him, so I am not complainin'!! haha!!

I am LoW said...

Let it be known, I wasn't crazy about McCain either. And actually, my par-tay (if I must) is Libertarian, but that wasn't really an option. :-/

Alyson | New England Living said...

Of course it should be the right person, but you never know who the right person is until they are actually in office, unfortunately. Oh, and Al Sharpton would never be elected by this country.

I think it says a lot about our country to go from slavery 150 years ago to electing a black president today. To think that Obama, the first black president, will be living in a house built by slaves gives me the chills. It's come full circle. It's touching, historical, and amazing.

Can't wait until the first woman is in office and I do want it to be the right person. I didn't want Hillary.

Alyson | New England Living said...

Bless sweet Gary's heart!

Alyson | New England Living said...

Oh, and I'm NOT a raging liberal, for the record.

I'm an independent. So, you can all stop throwing those rotten tomatoes at me! (as Crash would say) hehehe

Alyson | New England Living said...

Ok, well, I'm off to my enrichment activity meeting. Good luck, Crash, in finishing your post!

I am LoW said...

Right- I can't see Sharpton getting voted in either. It would take away from the "Woohoo! We have our first black Prez!" and that's kinda how I am about Pres Obama. For me, b/c I don't think he's good (I don't), so it takes away from the excitement of him being biracial and Prez. I really don't think you vote someone in and just take a chance. I think we did. But again- I hope we're right. I really really do.

I preferred Hillary. haha!

Since he's putting in a lot of Clinton's people (and a Clinton), it'll probably be about the same anyways.

Politics- yuck! Not my favorite topic or people.

Gotta run to church myself! :-)

WV- hyping- hype, there has been.

The Crash Test Dummy said...

OHGOSH! WHO is talking about politics in my comment box and then running off to church!

Don't let the tomatoes hit you in the back, you serious minded independent women, you!

For the record I 'm a FEDERALIST!

(Well, I used to be a Federalit!)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

Colleen said...

Hope that you don't mind my bringing Elizabeth along. Can she be the Yellow Submarine Road Trip poet Laureate? Listening in on Lo and Allyson's tete-a-tete, I had to ask her about the grievances and she said:

>We need to find a place where we are safe; We walk into that which we cannot yet see.

Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.

Praise song for struggle; praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign; The figuring it out at kitchen tables.

Some live by "Love thy neighbor as thy self."

Others by first do no harm, or take no more than you need.

What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light. Love with no need to preempt grievance.>

So lurver can be beyond marital. Paul won't mind. And we won't let our love dismiss grievances. It's why I keep requiring my class to read Tony Morrison although they say they GET it already. It's why I couldn't stop smiling yesterday. I really want to be one who truly GETS it, here and there.

Smile and Be Happy.

Am I last?
